Patient-specific simulation of the intrastromal ring segment implantation in corneas with keratoconus
2015
Purpose The purpose of this study was the simulation of the implantation of intrastromal corneal-ring segments for patients with keratoconus. The aim of the study was the prediction of the corneal curvature recovery after this intervention. Methods Seven patients with keratoconus diagnosed and treated by implantation of intrastromal corneal-ring segments were enrolled in the study. The 3D geometry of the cornea of each patient was obtained from its specific topography and a hyperelastic model was assumed to characterize its mechanical behavior. To simulate the intervention, the intrastromal corneal-ring segments were modeled and placed at the same location at which they were placed in the s…
Intérêts du phénotypage de la personnalité pour améliorer la lutte biologique : cas d’étude chez l’auxiliaire Trichogramma evanescens
2021
One promising approach to improve the use of biological control agents (BCA) consists in the exploitation of intraspecific variation on traits related to mass-rearing or field performance. Consistent inter-individual variations in behaviour (known as personality) have never been considered in biological control (BC) while they have proved to be heritable and correlated to phenotypic traits possibly related to fitness in rearing or field conditions. The aim of this PhD thesis was (i) to develop an experimental design to measure personality traits in a the egg-parasitoid Trichogramma evanescens, and (ii) to evaluate the feasibility and interest of phenotyping personality traits to set and imp…
The role of biotic interactions in a prey-predator system : the case of predation and regulation of weed seeds by carabids.
2020
For the transition towards agricultural production systems that are less dependent on herbicides, the use of weed regulation by seed-eating carabids is of great interest. Weed seed predation by carabids is variable and occurs within a complex context of many biotic interactions. This complexity partly explains our current inability to predict levels of in-field weed regulation. In this thesis, I analysed variations in the levels of predation and biological regulation of weeds and determined how they respond to two classes of biotic interactions: 1) the availability of alternative prey; and, 2) intra- and inter-specific interactions between the carabids themselves. Field measurements carried…
Multiscale study of rainfall and vegetation cover in Cameroon : spatial analysis, temporal trends, climatic and anthropogenic factors of NDVI variabi…
2011
Due to its shape and location (2°N-13°N – 8°E-16°E; proximity of the Atlantic Ocean), Cameroon is characterized by a panel of cross-regional climate encountered widely in tropical Africa. Over the region, the decrease rainfall during the second half of the last century has been shown to be associated with stronger recurrence of drier periods, specifically in the core of the rainy season. These conditions have favored the degradation of vegetation cover, driven by socioeconomic and demographic constraints. The substantial impacts on human activities and local society highlight the need to better understand how climate and environmental dynamics do interact locally. The aim of this study is t…

Characterization of mitotic chromosomes of four species of the genus Diplodus: Karyotypes and chromosomal nucleolar organizer region phenotypes
1996
Karyotypes have been described in four Mediterranean species of the genus Diplodus (Teleostei, Sparidae), D. vulgaris, D. puntazzo, D. sargus and D. annularis. Chromosomes were mainly acrocentric in all but D. vulgaris, where certain chromosome pairs were subtelocentric. A remarkable intraspecific heteromorphism in the number of NOR-bearing chromosomes along with a substantial interspecific variability in position of chromosomal Ag signals have been encountered. The presumed origin of multiple NOR-bearing chromosomes in Diplodus species and variation of the NOR location is discussed. ? 1996 The Fisheries Society of the British Isles
Hybridization studies inSilene subgen.Petrocoptis (Caryophyllaceae)
2006
Silene subgenusPetrocoptis comprises sexual diploid taxa and it is restricted to calcareous cliffs in the Iberian peninsula. Artificial crosses involvingSilene pyrenaica (Bergeret)Mayol etRossello (≡Petrocoptis pyrenaica (Bergeret)Walp.),Silene laxipruinosa Mayol etRossello andS. montserratii subsp.crassifolia (Rouy)Mayol etRossello (≡P. crassifolia Rouy) were attempted to assess the extent of barriers developed within the subgenusPetrocoptis. Usually, intraspecific crosses involving allopatric populations were successful, suggesting that geographically isolated populations are not genetically isolated. Cross-compatibility was noted among the polymorphicS. pyrenaica, which developed fertile…
Intrasexual competition at work: Sex differences in the jealousy-evoking effect of rival characteristics in work settings
2010
Sex differences in jealousy-evoking rival characteristics in the relationship with a supervisor at work were examined in a community sample of 188 individuals from Argentina. Among men, the rivals’ social dominance and communal attributes evoked the most jealousy, followed by physical dominance. Among women, the rival’s communal attributes evoked the most jealousy, followed by social dominance and physical attractiveness. For men physical dominance of the rival and for women physical attractiveness of the rival evoked relatively more jealousy, especially among those high in intrasexual competition and confronted with a same-sex supervisor. When confronted with an opposite-sex supervisor, s…
