This research paper presents guidelines on how to select between self-contained electro-hydraulic and electromechanical cylinders. An example based on the motion control of a single-boom crane is studied. The sizing process of the different off-the-shelf components is analyzed in terms of design impact when replacing a traditional valve-controlled hydraulic cylinder. The self-contained electro-hydraulic solution is the best choice when a risk for high impact forces is present, when the required output power level lies continuously above 2 kW, or when installation space, weight, and cost are critical design objectives. Real-time human collision detection for industrial robot cells

A collision detection system triggering on human motion was developed using the Robot Operating System (ROS) and the Point Cloud Library (PCL). ROS was used as the core of the programs and for the communication with an industrial robot. Combining the depths fields from the 3D cameras was accomplished by the use of PCL. The library was also the underlying tool for segmenting the human from the registrated point clouds. Benchmarking of several collision algorithms was done in order to compare the solution. To this end, a case study consisting of 250 houses connected to the distribution network through a MV/LV transformer substation has been investigated and implemented in the experimental microgrid built at the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy. AbstractThe aim of this work is to implement a new process for the design and production of orthopaedic devices to realize entirely by Additive Manufacturing (AM). In particular, a generative algorithm for parametric modelling of flexible structures to use in orthopaedic devices has been developed. The developed modelling algorithm has been applied to a case study based on the design and production of a customized elbow orthosis made by Selective Laser Sintering. The results obtained have demonstrated that the developed algorithm overcomes many drawbacks typical of traditional CAD modelling approaches. Abstract A numerical and an experimental campaign were carried out with varying oscillation frequency and interface pressure. The local values of the main field variables at the contact interface between the specimens were predicted by a Lagrangian, implicit, thermo-mechanical FEM model and used as input of a dedicated Neural Network (NN).
