Abstract Suppressor of fused, Su(fu), was identified as a semi-dominant suppressor of the putative serine/threonine kinase encoded by the segment polarity gene fused in Drosophila melanogaster. The amorphic Su(fu) mutation is viable, shows a maternal effect and displays no phenotype by itself. Su(fu) mutations are often found associated to karmoisin (kar) mutations but two complementation groups can be clearly identified. By using a differential hybridization screening method, we have cloned the Su(fu) region and identified chromosomal rearrangements associated with Su(fu) mutations. Vegetation altering hydrodynamic conditions of an open channel flow controls the exchanges of sediment, nutrients and contaminants. Thus, the knowledge of the hydraulic characteristics of flow over vegetation is very important to support the management of fluvial processes. In this paper the flow over real flexible vegetation is experimentally studied. A 2D-ADV (Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter) is used to measure the local flow velocities for different vegetation concentrations and varying the discharge and the flume slope. The contribution of human migration to tourism: The VFR travel between the EU28 member states

This study explores the correlation between human migration and that part of tourism due to people visiting friends and relatives in a foreign country. We first compared the network structure of migration stocks and tourism flows between the 28 member countries of the European Union over the period 2000–2012. Then, we performed several econometric analyses to study the main tourism determinants and the correlations between migration to tourism. The paper derives from the discussion of the results an estimate of the contribution to the overall tourism phenomenon due to visiting friends and relatives. Complex network analysis and gravity models were the investigation methods preferred.

This research analyses in depth the project of one of the most representative work of the Modern Architectural Movement in Sicily – the Scuola Officina Meccanica, located in Villaggio Monte degli Ulivi, in Riesi (CL), designed by the architect Leonardo Ricci between 1962 and 1968. The main objective is to contribute to the conservation of the architectural work through its analysis and study for a careful and conscious restoration. The research methodology aimed to retrace the compositional and geometric principles that defined the design process and its unique configuration.

The Channel Tunnel is the largest underground geotechnical project undertaken in Europe during the 20th century. There have been numerous proposals since the early 19th century, especially by Thomé de Gamond (1867), Potier and de Lapparent (1877), and Destombes and Shephard-Thorn (1971). This paper discusses the history of the most important geological investigations for the Channel Tunnel bored in the Lower Cenomanian Chalk Marl.

Genetic and phenotypic dissection of 1q43q44 microdeletion syndrome and neurodevelopmental phenotypes associated with mutations in ZBTB18 and HNRNPU

Subtelomeric 1q43q44 microdeletions cause a syndrome associating intellectual disability, microcephaly, seizures and anomalies of the corpus callosum. Despite several previous studies assessing genotype-phenotype correlations, the contribution of genes located in this region to the specific features of this syndrome remains uncertain. Among those, three genes, AKT3, HNRNPU and ZBTB18 are highly expressed in the brain and point mutations in these genes have been recently identified in children with neurodevelopmental phenotypes.
