Parametric Hull Design with Rational Bézier Curves and Estimation of Performances

2021

In this paper, a tool able to support the sailing yacht designer during the early stage of the design process has been developed. Cubic Rational Bézier curves have been selected to describe the main curves defining the hull of a sailing yacht. The adopted approach is based upon the definition of a set of parameters, say the length of waterline, the beam of the waterline, canoe body draft and some dimensionless coefficients according to the traditional way of the yacht designer. Some geometrical constraints imposed on the curves (e.g., continuity, endpoint angles, curvature) have been conceived aimed to avoid unreasonable shapes. These curves can be imported into any commercial Computer Aide…

A New Systematic Series of Foil Sections with Parallel Sides

2020

Parallel-sided foil sections are used for centerboards and rudders in sailing dinghy classes and also for struts placed in a fluid flow. The objective of this work is to create a systematic series of parallel-sided sections to be used under different conditions, with an emphasis on the sailing dinghies 470, 420 and Optimist. The loss, and surprisingly the gain, in performance relative to 4-digit NACA sections are also investigated. A 2D Reynolds-averaged Navier&ndash

Genetic diversity of two perch Perca fluviatilis populations of the Latgale region

2015

Molecular markers based on retrotransposons possibility of integration into genomes of many organisms are commonly used for genetic analysis of different species. The aim of this study was to test possibility of use those markers in perch and detect genetic diversity of populations of two lakes of the Latgale region of Latvia: Cirišs and Sventes. The distance between the lakes is nearly 60 km, they belong to the same Daugava river basin but are different from ecological point of view. Forty two blood samples of <em>Perca fluviatilis </em>were collected altogether. Extracted DNA was analyzed using inter-PBS amplification technique with specifically selected retrotransposon-based …

Creating futures images for sustainable cruise ships : insights on collaborative foresight for sustainability enhancement

2021

The aim of the study was to explore futures images of collaborative sustainability enhancement within a cruise ship building network. Addressing collaborative sustainability at the organizational level rather than at the macro (regional or planetary) level, the paper explores socially constructed and shared futures images, which are less widely studied than individual-level images of the future. We advance an analytical model for constructing and evaluating collectively held futures images based on the structure and content of those images. From our data, we identified four futures images: Money rules; The customer is always right; Local economy focus; and The most sustainable ships in the …

Baltijas plakangliemenes Macoma balthica populācijas ģenētiskās daudzveidības analīze Rīgas jūras līča piekrastē

2015

Membrane bioreactors for treatment of saline wastewater contaminated by hydrocarbons (diesel fuel): An experimental pilot plant case study

2016

Abstract The paper reports the main results of an experimental campaign performed on a membrane bioreactor pilot plant designed to treat synthetic shipboard slops. The experimental campaign was divided into two phases: salinity acclimation up to 20 g NaCl L −1 (Phase I) and hydrocarbon (diesel fuel) dosing (Phase II). The observed results show that the carbon removal was not severely affected by the wastewater features. Conversely, respirometric tests showed that nitrification was strongly affected by the salinity (33% of nitrification efficiency at 20 g NaCl L −1 – Phase I) as a result of the salinity in the autotrophic biomass. Moreover, the sludge viscosity increased during Phase II due …

Ložņu āboliņa (Trifolium repens L.) Eiropas populāciju ģenētiskās daudzveidības salīdzinājums

2021

Analiz…

Correlazione tra dosaggio di paratormone ed elevati valori di PSA prebioptici in pazienti con successivo esito istologico di benignità

2012

The functional relationship between parathyroid glands and prostatic gland is commonly very well known. The aim of our study was to investigate the relationship between serum levels of PTH and serum levels of PSA in patients with pathological finding of BPH. According to 261 transrectal ultra- sound-guided prostatic biopsies performed from March 2009 to March 2010, 75 patients, responding to our inclusion criteria, were selected. 26 patients (34.6%) ended the study. All patients with high serum levels of PSA (>4 ng/mL), with histological diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia, underwent the assay of serum levels of PTH. We observed high levels of PTH (> 66 pg/mL) in 9 patients (35.2%)

Stochastic ship roll motion via path integral method

2010

ABSTRACTThe response of ship roll oscillation under random ice impulsive loads modeled by Poisson arrival process is very important in studying the safety of ships navigation in cold regions. Under both external and parametric random excitations the evolution of the probability density function of roll motion is evaluated using the path integral (PI) approach. The PI method relies on the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation, which governs the response transition probability density functions at two close intervals of time. Once the response probability density function at an early close time is specified, its value at later close time can be evaluated. The PI method is first demonstrated via simple …
