Tutkimus on toteutettu yhteistyössä Keski-Suomen sairaanhoitopiirin sädesairaalan osasto 31:n sairaanhoitajien ja sosiaalityöntekijän kanssa. Tarkoituksena on tarkastella työkonferenssimenetelmän soveltuvuutta moniammatillisen työn kehittämisen välineeksi sairaalaosastolle. Työkonferenssimenetelmä koostuu sarjasta kehityskeskusteluja (seminaareja), jotka toteutettiin keväällä 2007. Keskustelun aiheina olivat perheelliset syöpäpotilaat ja sosiaalityön palvelut. Tutkimuksen aikana toteutetun kehittämistyön tarkoituksena oli parantaa perheellisten potilaiden sosiaalityön palveluiden saantia moniammatillista yhteistyötä tehostamalla. Tutkimukseni kohteena ovat Kainuussa työskentelevät terveydenhuollon sosiaalityön am-mattilaiset ja heidän käsityksensä sairaalan sosiaalityön sisällöstä ja asemasta uudessa suunnitteilla olevassa sairaalassa. Tutkimukseni tavoitteena on tarkastella, millaista asian-tuntijuutta nykyiset sosiaalialan ammattilaiset tuovat Kainuuseen rakennettavaan uuteen keskussairaalaan. Esityksen lähtökohtana on sellainen ihmiskaupan vastaiseen työhön liittyvä julkinen ja viranomaiskeskustelu, jossa sotetoimijoita on vuosia arvosteltu siitä, etteivät ne tunne ihmiskaupan uhrin erityisasemaa sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon palveluiden saajina eivätkä siksi osaa auttaa uhreja oikein. Ratkaisuksi on tarjottu kokonaan sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon toimintalogiikasta ja vakiintuneista oppirakennelmista irrallinen ”auttamisjärjestelmä”. Domain-Specific Risk and Public Policy

We develop a method to estimate domain-specific risk. We apply the method to sickness insurance by fitting a utility function at the individual level, using European survey data on life satisfaction. Three results stand out. First, relative risk aversion increases with income. Second, marginal utility is higher in the sick state conditional on income, due to an observed fixed cost of sickness. Third, the domain-specificity of risk shifts the focus on the smoothing of utility, not consumption. The optimal policy rule implies that the replacement rates should be non-linear and decrease with income. nonPeerReviewed

Private health insurance in the universal public healthcare system: The role of healthcare provision in Finland

Voluntary private health insurance (VPHI) has gained popularity in universal public healthcare systems. We studied how the local provision of healthcare services correlated with VPHI take-up in Finland. Nationwide register data from a Finnish insurance company was aggregated to the local level and augmented with high-quality data on public and private primary care providers’ geographical closeness and fees. We found that the sociodemographic characteristics explained the VPHI take-up more than public or private healthcare provision. The aim of this study was to examine the positions that health personnel in specialist health care construct for patients experiencing intimate partner violence. It was also studied whether these constructed positions were challenged by other health care professionals and if so, how. The method of analysis chosen was discourse analysis. PURPOSE: To describe an original protocol for single slice spiral Computed Tomography (CT) virtual bronchoscopy in the evaluation of patients with central airway stenoses and compare the results with fibreoptic bronchoscopy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten patients (4 female and 6 male; age range 22-60 years; mean age 44 years) with endobronchial disease diagnosed by fibreoptic bronchoscopy (8 malignant tumours, 1 benign tumour and 1 fibroid stenosis) underwent virtual bronchoscopy with single slice spiral CT.
