Icone e boschi narrativi.

The Basics of Nuclear Chemistry and Radiochemistry: An Introduction to Nuclear Transformations and Radioactive Emissions

2019

Radiopharmaceutical chemistry and nuclear medicine make use of radioactive elements and compounds labeled with them. This chapter describes the fundamentals of radioactivity in the context of life sciences. It addresses principal questions such as: What is the composition of an atomic nucleus and what are the forces which hold nucleons bound within the nucleus? Even so, some nuclei are stable, and many others are not—why? The fate of unstable nuclei is transforming into more stable nucleon configurations—but what are the basic pathways to do so? What’s going on inside the nucleus? What are the energetics and velocities of these transformations? And finally, the various changes inside the nu…

A Dirichlet problem for the Laplace operator in a domain with a small hole close to the boundary

2016

We study the Dirichlet problem in a domain with a small hole close to the boundary. To do so, for each pair $\boldsymbol\varepsilon = (\varepsilon_1, \varepsilon_2 )$ of positive parameters, we consider a perforated domain $\Omega_{\boldsymbol\varepsilon}$ obtained by making a small hole of size $\varepsilon_1 \varepsilon_2 $ in an open regular subset $\Omega$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ at distance $\varepsilon_1$ from the boundary $\partial\Omega$. As $\varepsilon_1 \to 0$, the perforation shrinks to a point and, at the same time, approaches the boundary. When $\boldsymbol\varepsilon \to (0,0)$, the size of the hole shrinks at a faster rate than its approach to the boundary. We denote by $u_{\bolds…

Parametric and nonparametric A-Laplace problems: Existence of solutions and asymptotic analysis

2021

We give sufficient conditions for the existence of weak solutions to quasilinear elliptic Dirichlet problem driven by the A-Laplace operator in a bounded domain Ω. The techniques, based on a variant of the symmetric mountain pass theorem, exploit variational methods. We also provide information about the asymptotic behavior of the solutions as a suitable parameter goes to 0 + . In this case, we point out the existence of a blow-up phenomenon. The analysis developed in this paper extends and complements various qualitative and asymptotic properties for some cases described by homogeneous differential operators.

Intercomparison and analyses of the climatology of the West African Monsoon in the West African Monsoon Modeling and Evaluation project (WAMME) first…

2010

International audience; This paper briefly presents the West African Monsoon (WAM) Modeling and Evaluation Project (WAMME) and evaluates WAMME general circulation models' (GCM) performances in simulating variability of WAM precipitation, surface temperature, and major circulation features at seasonal and intraseasonal scales in the first WAMME experiment. The analyses indicate that models with specified sea surface temperature generally have reasonable simulations of the pattern of spatial distribution of WAM seasonal mean precipitation and surface temperature as well as the averaged zonal wind in latitude-height cross-section and low level circulation. But there are large differences among mo…

Incorporation of aerosol effects in a clear-sky semi-empirical model of UVER radiation for Valencia, Spain

2011

The study develops a simple but physically based model for estimating erythemal irradiance [(UV erythemal radiation (UVER)] for cloudless urban regions with substantial aerosol load, such as that of the Valencia environment in Spain. The model estimates direct and diffuse UVER for cloudless aerosol-free conditions using the LibRadtran model with a DISORT algorithm. Aerosol optical thickness for UVER (τaER) is obtained as a residual term by comparing measured direct UVER against modelled direct UVER in the absence of aerosol load. On average, τaER is 18% higher than τ data extrapolated to 305 nm using the CIMEL CE-318. Comparison of measured direct and diffuse UVER with model estimates provi…
