Influence of oxidation level of graphene oxide on the mechanical performance and photo-oxidation resistance of a polyamide 6

2019

The aim of this work is to study the relationship between the chemical-physical properties of graphene oxide (GO) and the performance of a polyamide 6 (PA6) in terms of mechanical reinforcement and resistance to UV-exposure. For this purpose, two samples of GO possessing different oxidation degrees were added (0.75 wt.%) to PA6 by way of a two-step technique and the materials achieved were carefully analysed from a morphological, chemical-physical, mechanical point of view. Photo-oxidation tests were carried out to assess the performance of this class of nanohybrids after 240 h of UV-exposure. The results reveal that both nanocomposites exhibit enhanced mechanical performance and durability…

Microwave effects on germination and growth of radish (Raphanus sativusL.) seedlings

2002

Abstract Germination of radish seeds was delayed and reduced by low-power microwave exposure at 10.5 and 12.5 GHz. Irradiation decreased also hypocotyl growth rate. These effects were increased by rising of the microwave power and by the vertically polarised electromagnetic field. When the irradiation was suspended the seedling growth recovered.

NEUTRON IRRADIATION EFFECTS IN PZ and PZT THIN FILMS

2005

ABSTRACT Neutron irradiation effects on highly oriented antiferroelectric PbZrO3 (PZ) and ferroelectric PbZr0.53Ti0.47O3 (PZT) thin films are investigated in view of their possible application as a temperature sensitive element in a new bolometer system for fusion devices like ITER. All investigated thin films were prepared by a sol-gel technique and by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) respectively. The dielectric properties were investigated in a frequency range from 1 to 250 kHz and at temperatures up to 400°C, prior to and after irradiation to a neutron fluence of 3 * 1022 m−2 (E > 0.1 MeV). After irradiation, the films were anneald in several steps up to 400°C in order to remove the radiat…

Enhanced Nonlinear Optical Coefficients of MAPbI3 Thin Films by Bismuth Doping

2020

The poor photostability under ambient conditions of hybrid halide perovskites has hindered their recently explored promising nonlinear optical properties. Here, we show how Bi3+ can partially substitute Pb2+ homogeneously in the commonly studied MAPbI3, improving both environmental stability and photostability under high laser irradiation. Bi content around 2 atom % produces thin films where the nonlinear refractive (n2) and absorptive coefficients (β), which modify the refractive index (Δn) of the material with light fluence (I), increase up to factors of 4 and 3.5, respectively, compared to undoped MAPbI3. Higher doping inhibits the nonlinear parameters; however, the samples show higher f…

Gamma and x-ray irradiation effects on different Ge and Ge/F doped optical fibers

2015

International audience; We performed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements on γ and X ray irradiated Ge doped and Ge/F co-doped optical fibers. We considered three different drawing conditions (speed and tension), and for each type of drawing, we studied Ge and Ge/F doped samples having Ge doping level above 4% by weight. The EPR data recorded for the γ ray irradiated fibers confirm that all the samples exhibit a very close radiation response regardless of the drawing conditions corresponding to values used for the production of specialty fibers. Furthermore, as for the X irradiated materials, in the γ ray irradiated F co-doped fibers, we observed that the Ge(1) and the Ge(2) d…

Photoinduced mass transport in low molecular organic glasses and its practical application in holography

2015

Abstract In this paper we present the synthesis and optical properties of amorphous low molecular compound 4-((4-(bis(5,5,5-Triphenylpentyl)amino)phenyl)diazenyl)benzoic acid. The surface relief gratings formation by polarization holography method on these thin films (thicknesses are 200–1700 nm) was shown. The dependence of the surface relief modulation on various parameters: recording exposure dose, the polarization state of the recording beams, the grating period and the film thickness of the material was demonstrated. Values of surface tension at the air-film before and after irradiation of the substance by polarized radiation were measured. The efficiency of surface relief formation in…

Fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy: potential for in-vivo estimation of skin fluorophores changes after low power laser treatment

2013

The impact of visible cwlaser irradiation on skin autofluorescence lifetimes was investigated in spectral range from 450 nm to 600 nm. Skin optical provocations were performed during 1 min by 405 nm low power cw laser with power density up to 20 mW/cm 2 . Autofluorescence lifetimes were measured before and immediately after the optical provocation.

Radiation-induced defects in antiferroelectric thin films

2003

Abstract Radiation effects on highly oriented antiferroelectric (AFE) PbZrO3 (PZ) films with a thickness of approximately 400 nm are investigated in view of their possible application as a temperature sensitive element in a new bolometer system for fusion devices like ITER. The films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The dielectric constant was measured in the frequency range from 1 to 250 kHz in a stepwise cooling mode (∼2 °C min−1) from 400 °C to room temperature before and after irradiation to a fast neutron fluence of 2×1022 m−2 (E>0.1 MeV). After irradiation, the films were annealed in several steps up to ∼400 °C to remove the radiation-induced defects. The results are di…

Structural, Optical, and Dielectric Investigations of the Relaxor PLZT 9,75/65/35 Ceramics Irradiated by High-Current Pulsed Electron Beam

2003

A comprehensive study of high-current pulsed electron irradiation effects on the structural, optical and dielectric properties of relaxor (Pb (1-x )La x )(Zr 0.65 Ti 0.35 ) 1-x/4 O 3 ceramics with x = 9,75 at.% has been performed for the first time. The electron beam had the following parameters: energy E = 250 keV, current density I = 1000 A/cm 2 , pulse duration τ = 300 ns, beam density -10 15 electrons/cm 2 per pulse. Infrared reflectivity spectra in the region of 100 ÷ 2000 cm -1 were obtained in virgin, irradiated by 1500 pulses and annealed up to 500°C ceramics. The reconstruction of perovskite ABO 3 structure in irradiated samples has been studied by combined use of X-ray diffraction…

Optical and photonic material hardness for energetic environments

2009

We studied the effects of dielectric change in the chemical composition and in the realization procedures under radiation exposure. We have compared the radiation effects on Ge-doped and F-doped fibers and preforms: the first play a crucial role in the photosensitivity property, the second improves the dielectric radiation hardness even at low concentrations. The use of different spectroscopic techniques (RIA, OA, EPR) allow the identification of the point defect formation mechanisms at the origin of the optical degradation properties.
