Paget's disease of scrotum and penis case report of a re-irradiation and review of the literature.

2020

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is a rare cutaneous adenocarcinoma generally arising in the anogenital region. Surgery is still considered the treatment of choice for patients with EMPD, while Radiotherapy is a common alternative for inoperable cases and it's necessary in case of lack of surgical radicality. In this article, we described our experience and a review of the literature, with a particular focus on radiation-induced toxicity and on the feasibility of re-irradiation. A 70-year-old patient with EPMD underwent adjuvant radiotherapy in 2015. After 28 months for recurrence another radiant treatment was performed. No G3 (CTCAE v4) toxicity were recorded. In the last follow-up visi…

Analytical control of photocatalytic treatments: degradation of a sulfonated azo dye

2003

The degradation of Methyl Orange (C(14)H(14)N(3)SO(3)Na), chosen as a model sulfonated azo dye, was investigated in aqueous solutions containing suspended polycrystalline TiO(2) particles under irradiation with simulated sunlight. The dye disappearance and the formation of the mineralization end products were monitored; the formation of the main transient intermediates was also examined in detail. Particular attention was devoted to the identification and to the evolution of fragments retaining the chromophoric group. The comparison of data coming from various analytical techniques led to a possible reaction mechanism for the degradation process, giving insight into an aspect of the treatme…

Photooxidative behaviour of polyethylene/polyamide-6 blends

2010

International audience; The photochemical behaviour of several polyethylene/polyamide-6 blends was studied under conditions of artificial accelerated weathering. Particular attention was paid to five different compositions ranging from pure polyethylene to pure polyamide with blends of PE/PA-6 of various compositions: 75/25, 50/50 and 25/75 wt/wt%. Analysis by infrared spectroscopy of the chemical modifications caused by photooxidation showed that exposing the polyethylene/polyamide-6 blends to UV-light irradiation led to the formation of oxidation photoproducts in both polymer phases. In agreement with both the mechanical and spectroscopic analyses, the photooxidation rate of the blends wa…

Heterogeneous Sonogashira Coupling over Nanostructured SiliaCat Pd(0)

2012

Sol–gel entrapped catalyst SiliaCat Pd(0) heterogeneously mediates the Sonogoashira coupling of different aryl halides and phenylacetylene either under thermal conditions or, much more efficiently, under microwave irradiation, affording good conversions of coupled products. Leaching of valued Pd is limited, and the catalyst can be reused.

Response of GAFChromic® HD-V2 film dosimeter in 10-300 Gy dose range for radiation testing of electronic devices

2019

The study reported in this paper aimed to investigate the response of a GAFChromic? HD-V2 film dosimeter in the dose range between 10 and 300 Gy, normally used to perform irradiation tests on electronic devices with a 60Co gamma-ray irradiator. The well-defined linearity of response in terms of absorbance as a function of absorbed dose, easiness of handling and data analysis of irradiated dosimeters, reproducibility, stability, and insensitivity to visible light and most of the environmental parameters, make HD-V2 film a flexible, inexpensive and reliable dose measurement device. The study has shown a fogging effect of the dosimeter response since its value changes over time. Strategies and…

Current-induced domain wall motion in nanoscale ferromagnetic elements

2011

The manipulation of a magnetic domain wall (DW) by a spin polarized current in ferromagnetic nanowires has attracted tremendous interest during the last years due to fundamental questions in the fields of spin dependent transport phenomena and magnetization dynamics but also due to promising applications, such as DW based magnetic memory concepts and logic devices. We comprehensively review recent developments in the field of geometrically confined domain walls and in particular current induced DW dynamics. We focus on the influence of the magnetic and electronic transport properties of the materials on the spin transfer effect in DWs. After considering the different DW structures in ferrom…

Comparative evaluation of antibacterial effect of nanoparticles and lasers against Endodontic Microbiota: An in vitro study

2018

Background Present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating antimicrobial efficacy of silver (AgNP) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) with and without Nd: YAG laser (L) irradiation against experimentally inoculated Enterococcus faecalis in infected human root dentin. Material and Methods 120 extracted single rooted human teeth were prepared and inoculated with E. faecalis for 24 hrs. The teeth were then randomly divided into 4 experimental group: AgNPs group: irrigation for 3minutes with 50 μl of 100 ppm, the AuNPs group: irrigation with 50 μl of 100 ppm, the AgNPs & Nd: YAG lasers group: irrigation with 50 μl of 100 ppm + irradiation with 1.5W laser for 60 seconds, the AuNPs & Nd: YAG la…

Optimizing [13N]N2 radiochemistry for nitrogen-fixation in root nodules of legumes

2010

Here we explored the conditions for synthesizing [ 13 N]N 2 in a state that is suitable for the administration to plant root nodules enabling studies of nitrogen fixation. [ 13 N]N 2 was prepared batchwise, starting with [ 13 N]NO ― 3 from the 16 O(p,α) 13 N nuclear reaction on a liquid water target. [ 13 N]NO ― 3 was first reduced to [ 13 N]NH 3 using Devarda's alloy, and then the [ 13 N]NH 3 was oxidized to [ 13 N]N 2 by hypobromite using carrier-added NH 4 CI. The amounts of carrier NH 4 CI and hypobromite were varied to determine the effects these parameters had on the radiochemical yield, and on the radiotracer specific activity. As expected, increasing the amount of carrier NH 4 CI im…

Effect of diode laser irradiation on root surfaces in vitro.

2002

The objective of this study was to evaluate possible morphological alterations of root surfaces after GaAlAs-diode laser (809 nm) irradiation under standardized in vitro conditions.Root specimens obtained from extracted periodontally diseased teeth were scaled and root planed with curettes followed by air-powder abrasive treatment prior to lasing. The variable parameters were power output (0.5-2.5 W) and exposure time (10-30 sec per specimen). Additionally, the effect of a saline solution and a human blood film on the root surface was investigated. The root segments were analyzed by means of a reflected light microscope. Photographs before and after irradiation were taken and evaluated. The…
