Design of a real-time spectroscopic rotating compensator ellipsometer without systematic errors

The classical analyzer is replaced by a fixed Rochon birefringent beamsplitter which splits the incidence light wave into two perpendicularly polarized waves, one oriented at +45 degrees and the other one at-45 degrees according to the plane of incidence. The Stachys L. genus has been used in traditional medicine to treat skin inflammations, stomach disorders, and stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the chemical profile and biological activity of the methanolic extract of Stachys spreitzenhoferi Heldr. (Lamiaceae) aerial parts, collected on the island of Kythira, South Greece. Abstract Paths to the ligands (Cl/Br-CH2CH2CH2)2NR/O/S/Se, R  Me, Bz, iPr, iBu, to the diGrignard reagents (Cl/BrMg-CH2CH2CH2)2NR/O/S, R  Me, Bz, iPr, iBu and to the eight-membered group 15 heterocycles (Cl/Br/I-As/Sb/Bi(CH2CH2CH2)2NR/S, R  Me, Bz, iBu are given. 13C-NMR, IR and Raman spectra are discussed; for the compound ClSb(CH2CH2CH2)2NMe the crystal structure analysis is given : the antimony atom is clearly Lewis acidic with ψ-trigonal-bipyramidal coordination and a transannular Sb⋯N interaction of 2.385(2) A. Synthesis and crystal structure of an unprecedented bismuth porphyrin containing ester pendant arms

International audience; An easily prepared porphyrin with pendant arms is shown to form a stable complex with bismuth(III) ion; the complex is eight coordinate with a square antiprismatic coordination geometry; the solid-state structure exhibits the formation of a dimer assembled via mutual coordination of a terminal ester group.

Chemical model systems for cellular nitros(yl)ation reactions.

S-nitros(yl)ation belongs to the redox-based posttranslational modifications of proteins but the underlying chemistry is controversial. In contrast to current concepts involving the autoxidation of nitric oxide ( • NO, nitrogen monoxide), we and others have proposed the formation of peroxynitrite (oxoperoxonitrate (1-)) as an essential intermediate. This requires low cellular fluxes of 'NO and superoxide ( • O 2 - ), for which model systems have been introduced. We here propose two new systems for nitros(yl)ation that avoid the shortcomings of previous models. Fast synthesis of single-phased 110 K bismuth superconductor by freeze-drying of acetic precursors. Kinetic role of calcium and copper oxides

Abstract Although the usefulness of solution procedures to improve the synthesis of bismuth HTSC has been argued, an adequate control of the procedural variables has allowed us to isolate the 110 K phase as the only superconducting phase after such a short sintering time as 22 h. The precursors used have been freeze-dried powders resulting from acetic solutions containing excess Ca and Cu. TGA-DTA and XRD experiments have been performed to follow the subsequent solid-state reaction processes. The initial formation of a mixed bismuth-lead oxoacetate, as intermediate to (Bi 1− y Pb y ) 2 CuO 4 , and the presence of an excess of Ca 2 CuO 3 in the last reaction step are two of the main factors …

AbstractBismuth superconducting oriented fibers of the compositions 2:2:1:2: and 2:2:2:3 have been grown by the Laser Floating Zone (LFZ) method. Growth conditions have been optimized in order to improve the superconducting properties. The 108 K onset in susceptibility measurements (associated to the 2:2:2:3 phase) only appears well defined when starting from Sr-defective precursors.
