Electrochemically prepared oxides for resistive switching devices

2018

Redox-based resistive switching memories (ReRAM) based on metal oxides are considered as the next generation non-volatile memories and building units for neuromorphic computing. Using different deposition techniques results however in different structural and electric properties, modulating the device performance. In this study HfO2 and Nb2O5 were prepared electrochemically by anodizing sputtering-deposited Hf and Nb in borate buffer solution. Photoelectrochemical measurements were used to study the solid state properties of the anodic oxides, such as band gap and flat band potential. In the case of anodic HfO2, detected photocurrent is ascribed to optical transitions between localized (gen…

Overview of Power Electronic Switches: A Summary of the Past, State-of-the-Art and Illumination of the Future.

2020

As the need for green and effective utilization of energy continues to grow, the advancements in the energy and power electronics industry are constantly driven by this need, as both industries are intertwined for obvious reasons. The developments in the power electronics industry has over the years hinged on the progress of the semiconductor device industry. The semiconductor device industry could be said to be on the edge of a turn into a new era, a paradigm shift from the conventional silicon devices to the wide band gap semiconductor technologies. While a lot of work is being done in research and manufacturing sectors, it is important to look back at the past, evaluate the current progr…

Q-switching of an erbium-doped fibre laser modulated by a Bragg grating fixed to a piezoelectric

2003

The performance of the Q-switched erbium-doped fibre laser with two fibre Bragg gratings as cavity mirrors was theoretically analysed, employing a set of rate equations for the ion populations and the photon flux inside the cavity. The simulation considers a system where the pulsed laser emission is produced by the temporal modulation of a Bragg grating fixed to a piezoelectric and operating in the 1550 nm spectral region. The temporal evolution of different frequency components of the laser emission produced is governed by the instantaneous overlap between the two gratings. Theoretical results are in agreement with previously reported experimental values.

Chemical characterization of organic residues on Late Roman amphorae from shipwrecks off the coast of Marsala (Trapani, Italy)

2021

Abstract Organic residues were extracted from thirty-three different types of Roman and Late Antique amphorae retrieved from underwater contexts in the custody of the Archaeological Museum “Baglio Anselmi” of Marsala in Sicily. The samples were analysed using GC-MS and 1H NMR, finding biomarkers of plant oils (including saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, alcohols and alkanes present in plant waxes) were identified in seven samples. The biomarkers for Pinaceae spp., used for making pitch, were identified in one sample. The results obtained shed light on the function of different types of North African amphorae, traditionally interpreted as containers for olive oil, wine and fish sauce, p…

Assessment of the SMAP Level-4 Surface and Root-Zone Soil Moisture Product Using In Situ Measurements

2017

International audience; The Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission Level-4 Surface and Root-Zone Soil Moisture (L4_SM) data product is generated by assimilating SMAP L-band brightness temperature observations into the NASA Catchment land surface model. The L4_SM product is available from 31 March 2015 to present (within 3 days from real time) and provides 3-hourly, global, 9-km resolution estimates of surface (0-5 cm) and root-zone (0-100 cm) soil moisture and land surface conditions. This study presents an overview of the L4_SM algorithm, validation approach, and product assessment versus in situ measurements. Core validation sites provide spatially averaged surface (root zone) soil m…

"Hold on! Apua tulossa." : English practices among Finnish Twitter users

2015

Kriptovalūtas kā noziedzīga nodarījuma instruments, to tiesiskais regulējums un problemātika

2018

Opioid Plasma Concentrations during a Switch from Transdermal Fentanyl to Methadone

2007

Opioid switching is often used to improve the opioid response in patients with cancer experiencing poor analgesia or adverse effects. When switching between drugs with delayed effect because of pharmacokinetics or type of delivery, concerns exist about the correct timing of introducing the second drug after stopping the previous one. The aim of this study was to assess plasmatic changes of fentanyl and methadone underlying the clinical events occurring during opioid switching. Eighteen patients with cancer receiving transdermal fentanyl with uncontrolled pain and/or moderate to severe opioid adverse effects, were switched to oral methadone using an initial fixed ratio of 1:20. Fentanyl patc…

Input-to-state stability for discrete-time nonlinear switched singular systems

2016

Discrete-time nonlinear switched singular systems (SSSs) are investigated. The input-to-state stability (ISS) problems for discrete-time nonlinear SSSs are concerned. The ISS criteria are obtained via average dwell time approach and iterative algorithm of discrete-time systems. The switching rules are optimized and designed. This paper investigates the input-to-state stability (ISS) problems for a class of discrete-time nonlinear switched singular systems (SSSs). Two novel ISS criteria are proposed based on average dwell time (ADT) approach and iterative algorithm of discrete-time systems (IADS). In particular, the following two cases are considered for the underlying systems: the first case i…

Neural discrimination of nonprototypical chords in music experts and laymen:an MEG study

2009

Abstract At the level of the auditory cortex, musicians discriminate pitch changes more accurately than nonmusicians. However, it is not agreed upon how sound familiarity and musical expertise interact in the formation of pitch-change discrimination skills, that is, whether musicians possess musical pitch discrimination abilities that are generally more accurate than in nonmusicians or, alternatively, whether they may be distinguished from nonmusicians particularly with respect to the discrimination of nonprototypical sounds that do not play a reference role in Western tonal music. To resolve this, we used magnetoencephalography (MEG) to measure the change-related magnetic mismatch response…
