Extracting parameters from semi-log plots of polycrystalline silicon PV modules outdoor I–V data: Double-exponential model revisited

2010

This paper presents a method for extracting physically meaningful parameters from measured I–V curves of PV modules. The 7-parameter double-exponential model is applied in the modeling. The method is based on linear fitting of semi-logarithmic plots. The paper demonstrates a new technique to estimate the series resistance of a module with high accuracy from such plots. As a result, also the reverse saturation current and the quality factor of the diffusion diode can be determined. The method is applied to outdoor I–V data from a test station with three similar, but not identical, polycrystalline-Si modules. The values of the series resistances found with this method deviate somewhat from th…

Elastomeric Organosilicon Micronetworks

1997

Trifunctional methyltrimethoxysilane and bifunctional dimethyldimethoxysilane monomers were cocondensed in water in the presence of surfactant. Strictly spherical micronetworks of narrow size distribution were obtained for particle sizes 10 nm < R < 30 nm. By special “endcapping” reactions all reactive SiOH groups were removed quantitatively, and the resulting micronetworks become soluble in common organic solvents like toluene, THF, or chloroform. For contents of trifunctional monomer larger than 50 mol % the particles do not swell irrespective of the choice of the solvent, whereas for lower mole fractions of trimethoxysilane an increasing swelling ratio is observed. Below 2.5 mol % trifun…

Plasma Polymer Membranes for Immobilising Metalloporphyrins

2013

Atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge formation of organosilicon thin films loaded with zinc 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin (Zn(TPP)) was investigated for different deposition conditions. UV–visible spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy revealed the effects of the metalloporpyhrins injection parameters and the plasma polymerisation conditions can affect the dispersion of the metalloporphyrins and the morphology of the coatings. The stability of the embedded Zn(TPP) molecules was investigated by orbitrap mass spectrometry.

CRISPR-Cas12a-Based Detection of SARS-CoV-2 Harboring the E484K Mutation

2021

The novel respiratory virus SARS-CoV-2 is rapidly evolving across the world with the potential of increasing its transmission and the induced disease. Here, we applied the CRISPR-Cas12a system to detect, without the need of sequencing, SARS-CoV-2 genomes harboring the E484K mutation, first identified in the Beta variant and catalogued as an escape mutation. The E484K mutation creates a canonical protospacer adjacent motif for Cas12a recognition in the resulting DNA amplicon, which was exploited to obtain a differential readout. We analyzed a series of fecal samples from hospitalized patients in Valencia (Spain), finding one infection with SARS-CoV-2 harboring the E484K mutation, which was t…

Surface molecularly imprinted silica for selective solid-phase extraction of biochanin A, daidzein and genistein from urine samples

2015

Selective molecularly imprinted silica polymer (SiO2MIP) for extraction of biochanin A, daidzein and genistein was synthesized using the surface molecular imprinting technique with the silica gel as a support. Biochanin A (BCA) was used as a template, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) as a functional monomer, and tetraethoxysilicane (TEOS) as a cross-linker. Non-imprinted polymer with the sol–gel process (SiO2NIP) was also prepared for comparison. The synthesized polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a standard Brunauer-Emett-Teller (BET) and Barret–Joyner–Halenda (BJH) analysis. The obtained results indicate…

Supramolecular silver polyoxometalate architectures direct the growth of composite semiconducting nanostructures.

2009

Nanosilver on a string: Crystalline silver polyoxovanadate supramolecular architectures are employed as precursors for the synthesis of composite nanowires (see scheme). The nanostructures are composed of semiconducting vanadium oxide which forms wires with high aspect ratios, and are embedded with metallic silver nanoparticles. © 2009 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Selective chemisorption of carbon monoxide by organic-inorganic hybrid materials incorporating cobalt(III) corroles as sensing components.

2007

Twenty-one hybrid materials incorporating cobalt(III) corrole complexes were synthesized by a sol–gel process or by grafting the metallocorrole onto a mesostructured silica of the SBA-15 type. All the materials show an almost infinite selectivity for carbon monoxide with respect to dinitrogen and dioxygen in the low-pressure domain where the chemisorption phenomenon is predominant. This peculiar property is of prime importance for an application as a CO sensor. The selectivity slightly decreases at high pressures where nonselective physisorption phenomena mainly occur. The percentage of active sites for CO chemisorption ranges from 22 to 64 %. This low percentage may be attributable to inte…

Securitizing images: The female body and the war in Afghanistan

2012

Referring to the recent ‘visual turn’ in Critical Security Studies, the aim of this article is threefold. First, by taking the concept of visual securitization one step further, we intend to theorize the image as an iconic act understood as an act of showing and seeing. This turn to the performativity of the visual directs our attention to the securitizing power of images. Second, this article addresses the methodological challenges of analysing images and introduces an iconological approach. Iconology enables the systematic interpretation of images as images by also taking their social embeddedness into account. In the third part of this article we apply this theoretical and methodologica…
