Ikona jest formą komunikowania chrześcijańskich dogmatów wiary. Ikona, jako fenomen, rozwinęła się głównie dzięki Bizancjum. Jednak Bizancjum nie było jedynym miejscem twórczości ikonograficznej. Ikony były tworzone zarówno na Zachodzie, jak i na Wschodzie niebizantyjskim. Dla chrześcijan arabskich centrum ikony było Aleppo. Wpływ kultury islamu i świata arabskiego zostawił ślad na sztuce chrześcijańskiej, która stworzyła charakterystyczne formy, zwłaszcza poprzez arabeskową ornamentykę. Technological artefacts express time periods in their visual design. Due time, visual culture changes and thus affects the design of pictorial representations in technological products, such as icons in user interfaces. Previous research of temporal aspects in human-computer interaction has been focusing on particular interaction situations, but not on the effects of design eras on user experience. The collection of church art of the Valamo monastery belongs to worthy rarities. Due to the evacuation from Karelia to Finland, collection survived almost complete. Despite the fact that the collection is well known to specialists in Finland and Russia, the research processes is just beginning. Especially little information exists about the icons of earlier period than of the 18th century. Almost nothing is known about the number of them, neither origins nor something about the painters of them. Ojcowie Reformacji: Marcin Luter i Jan Kalwin zakwestionowali kult obrazu. Posługiwali się różnymi argumentami. Marcin Luter dopuszczał obecność obrazów w przestrzeni kościelnej, a Jan Kalwin – nie. Ich teologia mocno oddziałała na Europę, tak że nawet katolicyzm w swej potocznej wrażliwości odszedł od rozumienia obrazu kultycznego, a wszedł w czas sztuki. Obraz przestał być pojmowany jako szczególne miejsce obecności (ikona), a zaczął funkcjonować jako dzieło sztuki, przestał być medium odnoszącym do oryginału, ale sam stał się oryginałem w sensie artystycznym.

Epifaniusz, biskup Salaminy na Cyprze w latach 376–403, należał do znaczących postaci w IV w. W działalności publicznej cechowała go radykalna postawa wobec prawd wiary, co bezpośrednio przekładało się na treść jego pism. Obok krytyki wszelkich przejawów heretyckiego myślenia zwalczał ponadto szerzący się wówczas kult obrazów. Taka opinia o nim stała się bardzo głośna dopiero w XX w., gdyż przed 100 laty, czyli w 1916 r., Karl Holl opublikował dosyć obszerne studium, w którym prezentuje tekst trzech utworów Epifaniusza potępiających oddawanie czci obrazom. Orsi acquired for the Archaeological Museum of Syracuse a group of architectural terracottas said to come from Agrigentum, San Biagio area (on the SE slope of the Rupe Atenea). This lot, left quite unnoticed until now, consists of six antefixes of late 5th-early 3rd cent. B.C. Tarantine types with relief heads of Gorgo-Medusa, Pan, and Artemis Bendis, that can confirm the circulation of these products, known otherwhere in Sicily by a few specimens from Gela excavations and from surface finds. Vengono esaminati i numeri pubblicati della rivista "La difesa della razza" in cui si fa spesso uso di iconografie classiche per esaltare la "razza italica" contro la "razza ebraica". Si richiama anche l'attenzione sul film "Scipione l'Africano" del 1937, che prepara la campagna antiebraica mediante la rappresentazione dei Cartaginesi rivali di Roma con la tipica iconografia già nella rivista attribuita agli Ebrei.
