ABSTRACT: The author of this essay argues that the source of the image of the snail from Juan de Borja’s 60th impresa of his Empresas Morales is textual, and that it can be traced back to the Picta Poesis by Aneau Barthelemy. Grazie all'analisi del rapporto tra il testo delle descrizioni di Filostrato e quello di Seneca tragico, Ovidio e Stazio si ipotizza la presenza nelle Imagines di allusioni ad opere ellenistiche perdute (si fa riferimento a Callimaco e Nicandro) . Inoltre, sulla base di un parallelismo tra II 4 (Ippolito) e un verso delle Rane di Aristofane si rintraccia una citazione dell'Ippolito Velato euripideo. A Low Cost Solution for 2D Memory Access

Many of the new coding tools in the H.264/AVC video coding standard are based on 2D processing resulting in row-wise and column-wise memory accesses starting from arbitrary memory locations. This paper proposes a low cost solution for efficient realization of these 2D block memory accesses on sub-word parallel processors. It is based on the use of simple register-based data permutation networks placed between the processor and memory. The data rearrangement capabilities of the networks can further be extended with more complex control schemes. Effect of a fluctuating electric field on electron spin dephasing in III-V semiconductors

In the present work we investigate electron spin relaxation in low-doped n-type GaAs semiconductor bulks driven by a static electric field. The electron dynamics is simulated by a Monte Carlo procedure which keeps into account all the possible scattering phenomena of the hot electrons in the medium and includes the evolution of spin polarization. Spin relaxation lengths are computed through the D’yakonov-Perel process, which is the only relevant relaxation mechanism in zinc-blende semiconductors. Fluorine-18 is among the most commonly used radionuclides for positron emission tomography (PET). This non-invasive imaging technique is capable of providing in vivo information about the distribution of radiolabeled biomolecules by 1808 coincidence detection of two simultaneously emitted photons from positron–electron annihilation. Although a number of different radiotracers have been successfully employed in PET, only a few, such as 2-[F]fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG) and [F]fluorodopa, have gained widespread application in nuclear medicine. Interaction-induced spin polarization in quantum dots.

The electronic states of lateral many electron quantum dots in high magnetic fields are analyzed in terms of energy and spin. In a regime with two Landau levels in the dot, several Coulomb blockade peaks are measured. A zig-zag pattern is found as it is known from the Fock-Darwin spectrum. However, only data from Landau level 0 show the typical spin-induced bimodality, whereas features from Landau level 1 cannot be explained with the Fock-Darwin picture. Instead, by including the interaction effects within spin-density-functional theory a good agreement between experiment and theory is obtained. The absence of bimodality on Landau level 1 is found to be due to strong spin polarization.

The present case study addresses the case of a geographical area neglected by most of the literature about the changing role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs): the low-tech contexts. This literature has traditionally exhibited two primary aspects. First, a focus on success stories such as entrepreneurial universities located in high-tech regions (e.g. Silicon Valley). Second, it reveals an inclination towards an evolution from ivory towers to entrepreneurial universities. Recently, there has been much debate about what kinds of genetic markers should be implemented as new core loci that constitute national DNA databases. The choices lie between conventional STRs, ranging in size from 100 to 450 bp; mini-STRs, with amplicon sizes less than 200 bp; and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). There is general agreement by the European DNA Profiling Group (EDNAP) and the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) that the reason to implement new markers is to increase the chance of amplifying highly degraded DNA rather than to increase the discriminating power of the current techniques.
