Se realiza un análisis cualitativo sobre el uso de metáforas en el lenguaje de signos de un grupo de personas adultas sordas de la Comunidad de Sordos de Chile. Se identifican metáforas gestuales de variada índole y se analizan las posibles relaciones entre estas y las metáforas del lenguaje oral en Chile. Guessing Meaning From Word Sounds of Unfamiliar Languages: A Cross-Cultural Sound Symbolism Study

Sound symbolism refers to a non-arbitrary relationship between the sound of a word and its meaning. With the aim to better investigate this relationship by using natural languages, in the present cross-linguistic study 215 Italian and Polish participants were asked to listen to words pronounced in 4 unknown non-indo-European languages (Finnish, Japanese, Swahili, Tamil) and to try to guess the correct meaning of each word, by choosing among 3 alternatives visualized on a computer screen. En partant de l'hypothèse de Rizzolatti et collègues (1998, 2007) d'un isomorphisme originaire entre phonétique et sémantique, l'article analyse le rapport entre les différences phonologiques et les différences sémantiques dans quatre ensembles de mots monosyllabiques italiens (monophonèmes, pronoms, verbes et adverbes) et montre que les signifiants tendent à s'opposer entre eux par le biais des traits phonologiques distinctifs comme les signifiés s'opposent par le biais de traits morphologiques et sémantiques.
