Can Interactive Mediation Tools Bridge the Identity Gap Between the Public and the Art Museum?
2015
International audience; Consumer behaviour in the field of art museums appears to be influenced both by the identity of the public and the art museum and by the context. It is a matter not of changing museum content, but of bringing its identity closer to that of the public in order to promote access to art. The authors first present the theoretical and conceptual framework for their research and then suggest a qualitative methodological approach to addressing the issues described in the results.; La conducta del consumidor en los museos de arte parece estar influenciada tanto por la identidad del público y del museo como por el contexto. No se trata de cambiar el contenido del museo, pero …
Compact and Field Portable Biophotonic Sensors for Automated Cell Identification (Plenary Address)
2021
In this Plenary address paper, we overview recently published work for automated cell identification using 3D optical imaging in compact and field portable biophotonic sensors. Digital holographic microscopy systems and lensless pseudorandom phase encoding systems capture 3D information of biological cells and make highly accurate automated cell identification possible. Overviewed systems include sickle cell disease diagnosis based on spatio-temporal cell dynamics in a field-portable 3D-printed shearing digital holography as well as lensless cell identification of both single and multicell samples using pseudorandom phase encoding.
The serial mediation effects of body image-coping strategies and avatar-identification in the relationship between self-concept clarity and gaming di…
2023
Gaming disorder (GD) has been recognized as a mental health problem, resulting in adverse and psychosocial consequences. Although previous evidence suggests poorer self-concept clarity (SCC) and avatar identification are associated with GD, less is known about the mediating role of body-image coping strategies (appearance- fixing and avoidance, a form of escapism) in this relationship. A total of 214 Italian online gamers (64 % males) were anonymously recruited online by posting the survey link on social media gaming forums and other online sites. The participants’ ages ranged from 18 to 59 years (M = 24.07 years, SD = 5.19). The results of the correlational analysis showed that SCC was neg…
The cognitive therapy of evaluation: Therapeutic techniques-[2]
1991
Abstract The main aim of this paper is to introduce the techniques used in cognitive therapy of evaluation. The Cognitive therapy of evaluation is being developed from the theoretical background of general semantics theory and it is a therapy based on language as an instrument of cognitive processes, and on the role it plays, through word-facts identification, in the development and treatment of emotional problems. The main techniques developed (abstraction orders and the extensional devices) and other therapeutic issues are introduced and explained.
Ion mobility spectrometry and high resolution mass-spectrometry as methodologies for rapid identification of the last generation of new psychoactive …
2018
A new drug trafficking trend has been observed in the last years by the introduction in the black market of new psychoactive substances (NPS) in order to difficult competent authority controls. In this study, ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) and high-resolution mass-spectrometry (HRMS) were proposed as vanguard and rearguard methodologies for the rapid identification of the last generation of NPS in seizures. The combined use of IMS and HRMS has been evaluated through the analysis of 24 NPS seized from 2016 to 2018 in Valencia (Spain) to demonstrate the utility of this approach. The characteristic reduced mobility (K0) values for seized NPS were determined and mass-mobility relationships wer…

Nowhere has technological progress been as dramatic as in the field of information and communication technology (ICT). Citizens of the developed world now live in an environment in which access to electronic information and communication is nearly ubiquitous—and we rely heavily on being surrounded by this technology. In fact, it is so omnipresent that we only recognize our dependence on ICT when a network server or a communications system fails, leaving us cut off from cyberspace. > …computers, mobile telephones, personal digital assistants, music players and all other types of electronic gadgets are further shrinking in size, and we will soon wear them as we do clothes or jewellery… The fi…
Identity, Threat Aversion, and Civil Servants' Policy Preferences: Evidence from in the European Parliament
2017
The accepted and peer reviewed manuscript to the article Distinct policy options are typically characterized by a number of advantages (or ‘opportunities’) and disadvantages (or ‘threats’). The preference for one option over another depends on how individuals within an organization perceive these opportunities and threats. In this article, we argue that individuals' identification with an organization's core aims and objectives constitutes a key determinant of this perception. We propose that stronger identification shifts individuals' attention towards potential threats rather than opportunities in the payoff distribution, encouraging avoidance of negative outcomes. Moreover, we argue that…

Defect detection in laser powder deposition components by laser thermography and laser ultrasonic inspections
2013
Laser Powder Deposition (LDP) techniques are being adopted within aerospace and automotive manufacturing to produce innovative precision components. Non-destructive techniques (NDT) for detecting and quantifying flaws within these components enables performance and acceptance criteria to be verified, improving product safety and reducing ongoing maintenance and product repair costs. In this work, software enabled techniques are presented for in-process analysis of NDT laser ultrasonic signals and pulsed laser thermography images of sequential metallic LPD layers. LPD tracks can be as thin as 200μm while deposited at a rate of 500 mm/min, requiring ultrafast inspection and processing times. …
OMA: From Research to Engineering Applications
2021
Ambient vibration modal identification, also known as Operational Modal Analysis (OMA), aims to identify the modal properties of a structure based on vibration data collected when the structure is under its operating conditions, i.e., when there is no initial excitation or known artificial excitation. This method for testing and/or monitoring historical buildings and civil structures, is particularly attractive for civil engineers concerned with the safety of complex historical structures. However, in practice, not only records of external force are missing, but uncertainties are involved to a significant extent. Hence, stochastic mechanics approaches are needed in combination with the iden…
