Fractional Modeling of the AC Large-Signal Frequency Response in Magnetoresistive Current Sensors

2013

Fractional calculus is considered when derivatives and integrals of non-integer order are applied over a specific function. In the electrical and electronic domain, the transfer function dependence of a fractional filter not only by the filter order n, but additionally, of the fractional order α is an example of a great number of systems where its input-output behavior could be more exactly modeled by a fractional behavior. Following this aim, the present work shows the experimental ac large-signal frequency response of a family of electrical current sensors based in different spintronic conduction mechanisms. Using an ac characterization set-up the sensor transimpedance function  is obtain…

A Battery-free Asset Monitoring System based on RF Wireless Power Transfer

2020

In the Internet of Things (IoT) era, asset monitoring represents an appealing implementation of Wireless Sensor Networks due to the enormous benefits associated with being able to monitor and record the exact position and transportation conditions of assets, personal objects, and the like. This kind of infrastructure enables the provision of increasingly advanced services, including the ability to measure the movement speed of a monitored asset using relatively inexpensive nodes with sensing capabilities and wireless transmission and reception. These nodes would ideally employ battery-free sensors that do not require any maintenance, but conventional power supply management systems cannot s…

Prediction of lncRNA-Disease Associations from Tripartite Graphs

2021

The discovery of novel lncRNA-disease associations may provide valuable input to the understanding of disease mechanisms at lncRNA level, as well as to the detection of biomarkers for disease diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and prevention. Unfortunately, due to costs and time complexity, the number of possible disease-related lncRNAs verified by traditional biological experiments is very limited. Computational approaches for the prediction of potential disease-lncRNA associations can effectively decrease time and cost of biological experiments. We propose an approach for the prediction of lncRNA-disease associations based on neighborhood analysis performed on a tripartite graph, built upon …

Seed morphology of Linaria species from eastern Spain: identification of species and taxonomic implications

2001

Abstract Seed morphology of 15 taxa of Linaria from eastern Spain has been studied using stereoscopic and scanning electron microscopy. Four different morphological types are described according to features of the seed-coat surface. The type that includes winged seeded taxa is divided into three subtypes. Seed morphology of each type and subtype is described, compared, illustrated and discussed according to its taxonomic and biological implications. A key to identify the different species or groups of species is also supplied.

Product-Service Systems in the Digital Era: Deconstructing Servitisation Business Model Typologies

2021

The identification of business model typologies of servitised firms is part of a long research tradition. However, the relevance of many existing typologies in the contemporary context, in which digitalisation is central to business model innovation, may be questioned. Thus, in this chapter, we revisit the existing literature and continue the conceptual discussion about the categorisation of product-service system business models. We propose a conceptual product-service system business model framework with three independent continuums: the degrees of ownership retention, results-orientedness and smartness. Based on this framework, we derive a new product-service system business model typolo…

The nature of managerial commitment to strategic change

2000

This article explores the nature of managerial commitment to such strategic changes as downsizing and quality improvement. Its purpose is to develop a theoretical framework of managerial commitment. Findings from a qualitative study are presented resulting in the classification of commitment in two dimensions: reward‐based and trust‐based commitments. A theoretical typology of the four types of managerial commitment is developed based on the dimensions: passive, calculative, trustful, and balanced types of commitment. The article argues that the general assumptions in commitment literature that people need material, social or psychological incentives and rewards which facilitate identificat…

Identifying gene-environment interactions in schizophrenia: contemporary challenges for integrated, large-scale investigations

2014

European Community Recent years have seen considerable progress in epidemiological and molecular genetic research into environmental and genetic factors in schizophrenia, but methodological uncertainties remain with regard to validating environmental exposures, and the population risk conferred by individual molecular genetic variants is small. There are now also a limited number of studies that have investigated molecular genetic candidate gene-environment interactions (G x E), however, so far, thorough replication of findings is rare and G x E research still faces several conceptual and methodological challenges. in this article, we aim to review these recent developments and illustrate h…

Modeling, Design and Experimentation of Wearable RFID Sensor Tag

2010

Design of effective wearable tags for UHF RFID applications involving persons is still an open challenge due to the strong interaction of the antenna with the human body which is responsible of impedance detuning and efficiency degradation. A new tag geometry combining folded conductors and tuning slots is here discussed through numerical analysis and extensive experimentation also including the integration of a passive motion detector. The achieved designs, having size comparable with a credit card, may be applied to any part of the body. The measured performance indicates a possible application of these body-worn tags for the continuous tracking of human movements in a conventional room.

Spectral identification of forced oscillation in PMU signal using mode decomposition

2018

This article gives a new method to identify the frequency of Forced Oscillation (FO) in phasor measurement units (PMUs) signals. The processing of the signal by Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) technique leads to effective detection with improvement in accuracy. After testing some improved versions of EMD, it is observed that ‘improved Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN-2014)’ is the best version to use in processing. The developed methodology is able to spot the frequency of FOs even if there exist multiple modes with mode mixing and multiple events. In such cases, self-coherence method fails to spot FO. Spectral analysis is conducted on the decom…
