Continent urinary diversion and bladder augmentation in children: the Mainz pouch procedure.
1989
The formation of a bowel reservoir of large capacity at low pressure by using small and large bowel (ileocaecal segment) has proved reliable for achieving continent urinary diversion (n = 80), for bladder augmentation (n = 42) as well as for total bladder replacement (n = 24). Encouraged by the results we obtained in our adult patients, we have used this technique during the last 3.5 years in 29 children. Indications for urinary diversions in children have been: neurogenic bladder with diplegia (n = 8), bladder exstrophy (n = 2), traumatic loss of the bladder (n = 1), urogenital sinus (n = 1) and rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate or bladder (n = 2). Bladder augmentation was indicated in 6 ch…
Reliability of iCare ic100 Rebound Tonometry and Agreement With Goldmann Applanation Tonometry in Healthy and Post-myopic LASIK Patients.
2021
Rebound tonometry offers excellent reliability for obtaining intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements in healthy and post-myopic laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) patients regardless of corneal parameters and axial length and regardless of the instillation of ocular topical anesthesia. The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability of rebound tonometry, its agreement with Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) and its concordance after topical anesthesia in a group of nonoperated healthy patients and a group of post-myopic LASIK patients.Fifty-four patients were included in this prospective observational, case-control study. Patients were divided into 2 groups: control (n=3…
Intestinal Ischemia: US-CT findings correlations.
2013
Background Intestinal ischemia is an abdominal emergency that accounts for approximately 2% of gastrointestinal illnesses. It represents a complex of diseases caused by impaired blood perfusion to the small and/or large bowel including acute arterial mesenteric ischemia (AAMI), acute venous mesenteric ischemia (AVMI), non occlusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI), ischemia/reperfusion injury (I/R), ischemic colitis (IC). In this study different study methods (US, CT) will be correlated in the detection of mesenteric ischemia imaging findings due to various etiologies. Methods Basing on experience of our institutions, over 200 cases of mesenteric ischemia/infarction investigated with both US and …
Gastrointestinal perforation: ultrasonographic diagnosis.
2013
Abstract Gastrointestinal tract perforations can occur for various causes such as peptic ulcer, inflammatory disease, blunt or penetrating trauma, iatrogenic factors, foreign body or a neoplasm that require an early recognition and, often, a surgical treatment. Ultrasonography could be useful as an initial diagnostic test to determine, in various cases the presence and, sometimes, the cause of the pneumoperitoneum. The main sonographic sign of perforation is free intraperitoneal air, resulting in an increased echogenicity of a peritoneal stripe associated with multiple reflection artifacts and characteristic comet-tail appearance. It is best detected using linear probes in the right upper q…
ORTHOTOPIC BLADDER SUBSTITUTION IN WOMEN: FUNCTIONAL EVALUATION
1999
AbstractPurpose: Orthotopic bladder substitution following cystectomy in women has recently been introduced at some specialized centers. Studies of such a procedure should consider the oncological and functional outcomes. We analyzed only the functional results of orthotopic bladder substitution since followup is too short (about 2 years) for a valid oncological assessment.Materials and Methods: From October 1994 to November 1997, 60 women with a mean age of 48.3 years underwent standard radical cystectomy and orthotopic diversion (ileal W-neobladder with subserous tunnel in 47 and hemi-Kock reservoir in 13). The oncological criterion was organ confined invasive bladder cancer. Results: Ther…
Benefits and Side Effects of Bandage Soft Contact Lens Application after LASIK
2005
Purpose To evaluate benefits and side effects of bandage soft contact lens (BSCL) insertion after LASIK in relation to patients’ characteristics. Design Prospective, randomized, bicenter comparative investigational trial. Participants One hundred patients (200 eyes) with myopia and/or myopic astigmatism. Methods Each patient underwent consecutive (Marburg, Germany) or simultaneous (Mainz, Germany) bilateral LASIK. At the end of the procedure, the first treated eye received a drop of ofloxacin and dexamethasone, patch, and transparent protective shield for 2 to 4 hours. The fellow eye received in addition a BSCL, soaked in the same eyedrops for 20 to 24 hours. Main Outcome Measures Schirmer …
Safety of hospital discharge before return of bowel function after elective colorectal surgery
2020
Ileus is common after colorectal surgery and is associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications. Identifying features of normal bowel recovery and the appropriateness for hospital discharge is challenging. This study explored the safety of hospital discharge before the return of bowel function.A prospective, multicentre cohort study was undertaken across an international collaborative network. Adult patients undergoing elective colorectal resection between January and April 2018 were included. The main outcome of interest was readmission to hospital within 30 days of surgery. The impact of discharge timing according to the return of bowel function was explored using multiva…
Duszpasterski kairos orędzia, kultu i jubileuszu 100-lecia objawień fatimskich
2017
