The lateral variation of solid state reactions at surfaces studied by means of photoemission electron microscopy: formation of titanium silicides

2001

The alloying and oxygen reduction at titanium silicon interfaces were studied by means of photoemission microscopy. The microscopic chemical composition of the sample surface was characterised by means of imaging X-ray absorption. The silicide formation was studied at clean and oxidised silicon substrates both covered with micron-sized titanium patterns.

Trapping and manipulation of colloidal objects using silicon photonic structures integrated into optofluidic chips

2016

Near-field optical forces arise from evanescent electromagnetic fields, such as in the near-field of photonic waveguides and nanocavities where light is highly confined. These contactless forces can be advantageously used to trap and manipulate micro- and nano-objects in solution. This thesis aims at studying these intriguing interactions and investigating their potential applications. The first chapter is an introduction to the fields of colloidal systems and optical trapping, more especially using near-field optical forces. The second chapter presents the experimental setup and the process used to fabricate optofluidic chips with microfluidic channels. The trapping potential experienced b…

Le dioxyde de titane : un matériau nouveau pour la photonique à 1.55 µm et à 2 µm

2018

In the next decades, the limits of current optical communication systems will be reached unless new solutions are adopted. On of them is the use of a new spectral range around 2 µm enabled by the emergence of thulium-doped fiber amplifiers. In this thesis, we will focus on it in the context of very short distances transmissions on photonic chips. Various materials, mainly titanium dioxide (TiO2), will be explored. This thesis work has two main objectives. On the one hand, it aims to demonstrate that a material relatively unexplored, titanium dioxide, is promising for telecom applications by comparing it to more mature plateforms. On the other hand, it tends to introduce the spectral band aro…

Combustion wave structure during the MoSi2 synthesis by Mechanically-Activated Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (MASHS): In situ time-reso…

2006

Abstract In situ synchrotron time-resolved X-ray diffraction experiments coupled with an infrared imaging camera have been used to reveal the combustion wave structure during the production of MoSi2 by Mechanically Activated Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (MASHS). The fast combustion front exhibits a form described as an ‘equilibrium structure’ where the chemical reaction is the sole major driving force. In the MASHS process, oxide-free interfaces between Mo and Si nanocrystallites enhance the reaction Mo+2Si→MoSi2. Exhaustive time-resolved investigations show a possible solid-state process in the first second of the reaction within the combustion front. If preheating is added,…

The role of melt composition on aqueous fluid vs. silicate melt partitioning of bromine in magmas

2018

International audience; Volcanogenic halogens, in particular bromine, potentially play an important role in the ozone depletion of the atmosphere. Understanding bromine behaviour in magmas is therefore crucial to properly evaluate the contribution of volcanic eruptions to atmospheric chemistry and their environmental impact. To date, bromine partitioning between silicate melts and the gas phase is very poorly constrained, with the only relevant experimental studies limited to investigation of synthetic melt with silicic compositions. In this study, fluid/melt partitioning experiments were performed using natural silicate glasses with mafic, intermediate and silicic compositions. For each co…

Middle Triassic conodonts from northeastern Spain: biostratigraphic implications

2000

The facies development of the Spanish Triassic corresponds to the typical three-fold subdivision of the Germanic Facies: Buntsandstein, Muschelkalk and Keuper. Two intervals interpreted as epeiric carbonate platforms: lower Muschelkalk (Anisian) and upper Muschelkalk (Ladinian) are recognized during the Middle Triassic of northeastern Spain. These carbonate intervals are separated by one siliciclastic/evaporitic interval interpreted as sabbkha and saline deposits: middle Muschelkalk facies (Lower Ladinian). In northeastern Spain (Catalonian Coastal Ranges), two Middle Triassic sections comprising lower Muschelkalk facies have yielded the following conodont taxa: Paragondolella bulgarica, P.…

Micelles as containers for self-assembled nanodevices: a fluorescent sensor for lipophilicity

2008

Potentiometric titrations, fluorescence versus pH titrations, dynamic light scattering and fluorescence polarization anisotropy studies demonstrate that inside the nanodimensioned Triton X-100 micelles, 1-pyrenecarboxylic acid, PCOO-, forms an apical complex with the Zn2+ cation encircled by a lipophilic cyclen ligand and hugely increasing its fluorescence. The ability of the Zn2+-cyclen-PCOO- complex plus its micellar container to act as a fluorescent sensor to evaluate the lipophilicity of molecular species is demonstrated on the fatty acid series CH 3(CH2)xCOOH (x=0-16). At pH 7.4 a decrease in fluorescence is observed on the addition of fatty acids that is directly related to their chai…

A Novel 68Ga-Labeled Pteroic Acid-Based PET Tracer for Tumor Imaging via the Folate Receptor

2012

The folate receptor (FR) is a very attractive target in oncological imaging as it is overexpressed by a variety of cancer types, whereas the expression in healthy tissue is very limited. The synthesis of regioisomeric pure folic acid derivatives normally requires a regioselective approach and does not allow the use of native folic acid (FA). As the pharmacophore of FA is assumed to be pteroic acid, its use without the glutamic acid moiety may enable the possibility to considerably simplify the synthesis of a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer for FR imaging. In this work, DO3A-EA-Pte was successfully synthesized and labeled with 68Ga. It is stable for up to 3 h in PBS and against tra…

A Novel Series of 2-Carboxytetrahydroquinolines Provides New Insights into the Eastern Region of Glycine Site NMDA Antagonists

2000

A series of potent 4-substituted tetrahydroquinolines has been synthesized and biologically tested in order to refine the eastern region of the pharmacophore model for glycine site NMDA antagonists concerning the assessment of lipophilicity, flexibility, and hydrogen bonding. Displacement studies on rat cortical membranes using [ 3 H]-5,7-dichlorokynurenic acid as a radioligand indicated that binding affinities are markedly enhanced when additional hydrogen-accepting groups are introduced into the eastern region of the 2-carboxytetrahydroquinolines. Among the most potent ligands were some urea, sulfonylurea, and crown ether compounds as interesting leads for new diagnostics, especially for …

Gas-liquid chromatography and lipophilicity of esters of benzoic acids

1987

Abstract The use of gas-liquid chromatographic (GLC) retention indices for the determination of lipophilicity was studied for a series of alkyl and arylalkyl esters of substituted benzoic acids. The regression relationships between the logarithms of the partition coefficients and the retention characteristics measured on two cpillary columns, SE-30 and OV-351, were evaluated. The behaviour of arylalkyl esters and of alkyl esters cannot be expressed in terms of a single regression equation. This is probably a consequence of the effect of the intramolecular hydrophobic interaction upon the retention of arylalkyl esters under GLC conditions. An analysis of the isokinetic relationships revealed…
