3-D attenuation image of fluid storage and tectonic interactions across the Pollino fault network

2021

SUMMARYThe Pollino range is a region of slow deformation where earthquakes generally nucleate on low-angle normal faults. Recent studies have mapped fault structures and identified fluid-related dynamics responsible for historical and recent seismicity in the area. Here, we apply the coda-normalization method at multiple frequencies and scales to image the 3-D P-wave attenuation (QP) properties of its slowly deforming fault network. The wide-scale average attenuation properties of the Pollino range are typical for a stable continental block, with a dependence of QP on frequency of $Q_\mathrm{ P}^{-1}=(0.0011\pm 0.0008) f^{(0.36\pm 0.32)}$. Using only waveforms comprised in the area of seism…

The influence of social media use on body image concerns

2018

Internet-based media and especially social networking sites differ from traditional media in that they al- low individuals to interact with their friends in their networks. Moreover, Internet-based media are easi- ly available on devices such as smartphones or tablets. Previous research has demonstrated that mass media contribute powerfully to an individual’s body dissatisfaction. To date, research on the effects re- lated to exposure to ‘newer’ forms of media, in particular social media on the Internet, is scarce. The purpose of the current study is to review the extant body of research dealing with the influence of social media on body image concerns, especially among adolescents. Adolesc…

Analysis of Body Perception, Preworkout Meal Habits and Bone Resorption in Child Gymnasts

2021

The beneficial effects of physical activity on body image perception and bone are debated among artistic gymnasts. Gymnasts seem to be at greater risk of developing body dissatisfaction, eating disorders and osteoporosis due to inadequate nutrition and attention to the appearance of the body. The objective of this work was to investigate the association between the artistic gymnast and a more favorable body image compared to their sedentary peers and if a preworkout high-carbohydrate meal (HCM

Body Image Perception in Mexican University Athletes VS Non-Athletes

2014

The objective of this study consisted in determining the differences and similarities among Mexican University students who practice a sport on a regular basis with those who do not do, concerning their body image perception to their actual, ideal, social and body size dissatisfaction. A total sample of 304 male University students, aged 18-29 years participated in this study; 146 of them practice a sport and participate regularly in a tournament or competition. A quantitative approach with a descriptive and transversal survey design was used. All the participants completed the Contour Drawing Rating Scale adapted and computerized by [1]. The results of the one-way multivariate analysis of …

Psychological distress and quality of life in ostomy patients with colorectal cancer: A systematic review of the literature

2018

Introduction: This research examine the literature related to the psychological state and the quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer. In particular, this study investigates the alterations in patients who have undergone ostomy procedures (colostomy and/or ileostomy). Materials and methods: A systematic research was been carried out through the electronic databases PubMed and Psychinfo. After having identified 1289 scientific articles, a convenient sample of 12 studies were included in the research. Overall, all studies taken into analyses have shown how enterostomy affects the quality of life of stoma patients both after the formation of the stoma and the follow-up. Results: 12 …

Imagen corporal y restricción alimentaria en adolescentes

2003

Developmental differences in the uterus of Fasciola hepatica between livestock liver fluke populations from Bolivian highlands and European lowlands

2001

A morphometric study of the uterus area (UA) of Fasciola hepatica adults was carried out with the aid of a computer linked to a stereomicroscopic 3CCD colour video camera using image analysis software. The UA of adult liver flukes found in naturally infected sheep, cattle and pig from the endemic human fascioliasis zone of the northern Bolivian Altiplano highlands was compared with that of flukes found infecting sheep and cattle from Valencia, Spain and cattle from Corsica, France (collectively, European lowlands). Liver fluke UA was examined using an allometric model. A comparison of the allometry of the liver fluke UA in different host species from Bolivia revealed no significant differen…

Analysis of Spatially and Temporally Overlapping Events with Application to Image Sequences

2006

Counting spatially and temporally overlapping events in image sequences and estimating their shape-size and duration features are important issues in some applications. We propose a stochastic model, a particular case of the nonisotropic 3D Boolean model, for performing this analysis: the temporal Boolean model. Some probabilistic properties are derived and a methodology for parameter estimation from time-lapse image sequences is proposed using an explicit treatment of the temporal dimension. We estimate the mean number of germs per unit area and time, the mean grain size and the duration distribution. A wide simulation study in order to assess the proposed estimators showed promising resul…

Fast prototyping of a SoC-based smart-camera: a real-time fall detection case study

2014

International audience; Smart camera, i.e. cameras that are able to acquire and process images in real-time, is a typical example of the new embedded computer vision systems. A key example of application is automatic fall detection, which can be useful for helping elderly people in daily life. In this paper, we propose a methodology for development and fast-prototyping of a fall detection system based on such a smart camera, which allows to reduce the development time compared to standard approaches. Founded on a supervised classification approach, we propose a HW/SW implementation to detect falls in a home environment using a single camera and an optimized descriptor adapted to real-time t…

Learning to Navigate in the Gaussian Mixture Surface

2021

In the last years, deep learning models have achieved remarkable generalization capability on computer vision tasks, obtaining excellent results in fine-grained classification problems. Sophisticated approaches based-on discriminative feature learning via patches have been proposed in the literature, boosting the model performances and achieving the state-of-the-art over well-known datasets. Cross-Entropy (CE) loss function is commonly used to enhance the discriminative power of the deep learned features, encouraging the separability between the classes. However, observing the activation map generated by these models in the hidden layer, we realize that many image regions with low discrimin…
