The operational use of MERIS images can be hampered by the presence of clouds. This work presents a cloud screening algorithm that takes advantage of the high spectral and radiometric resolutions of MERIS and the specific location of some of its bands to increase the cloud detection accuracy. Moreover, the proposed algorithm provides a per-pixel probabilistic map of cloud abundance rather than a binary cloud presence flag. In this paper, we present a novel algorithm that performs online histogram-based classification, i.e., specifically designed for the case when the data is dynamic and its distribution is non-stationary. Our method, called the Online Histogram-based Naïve Bayes Classifier (OHNBC) involves a statistical classifier based on the well-established Bayesian theory, but which makes some assumptions with respect to the independence of the attributes. Graphene nanoribbons subject to gentle bends

Since graphene nanoribbons are thin and flimsy, they need support. Support gives firm ground for applications, and adhesion holds ribbons flat, although not necessarily straight: ribbons with high aspect ratio are prone to bend. The effects of bending on ribbons' electronic properties, however, are unknown. Therefore, this article examines the electromechanics of planar and gently bent graphene nanoribbons. Simulations with density-functional tight-binding and revised periodic boundary conditions show that gentle bends in armchair ribbons can cause significant widening or narrowing of energy gaps. Fuzzy Control of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems with Numerical Techniques: A Survey

This paper provides an overview of numerical methods in order to solve fuzzy equations (FEs). It focuses on different numerical methodologies to solve FEs, dual fuzzy equations (DFEs), fuzzy differential equations (FDEs) and partial fuzzy differential equations (PFDEs). The solutions which are produced by these equations are taken to be the controllers. This paper also analyzes the existence of the roots of FEs and some important implementation problems. Finally, several examples are reviewed with different methods.
Experiments on the dynamics of the Bose–Einstein condensate at finite temperatures

This paper presents the results of our recent experiments on the finite-temperature Bose?Einstein condensate of 87Rb atoms in a magnetic trap, and is devoted to the study of the hydrodynamic properties and dynamics of an ultra-cold atomic gas near the critical temperature. Measurements of the aspect ratio of an expanding atomic cloud allow for verification of the condensate models and study of the interaction between condensed and non-condensed fractions of a finite-temperature sample.

Our knowledge of ultracold quantum gases is strongly influenced by our ability to probe these objects. In situ imaging combined with single-atom sensitivity is an especially appealing scenario, as it can provide direct information on the structure and the correlations of such systems. For a precise characterization a high spatial resolution is mandatory. In particular, the perspective to study quantum gases in optical lattices makes a resolution well below one micrometre highly desirable. The SISCone jet algorithm optimised for low particle multiplicities

The SISCone jet algorithm is a seedless infrared-safe cone jet algorithm. There exists an implementation which is highly optimised for a large number of final state particles. However, in fixed-order perturbative calculations with a small number of final state particles, it turns out that the computer time needed for the jet clustering of this implementation is comparable to the computer time of the matrix elements. This article reports on an implementation of the SISCone algorithm optimised for low particle multiplicities.

Objectives To develop an automated procedure to detect patient motion on the projection images acquired during a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan and to evaluate the method's feasibility on small real-world CBCT images in relation to visual assessment. Methods Based on optical flow theory, software was developed using the sequence of the projection images of a CBCT machine for automated detection of patient motion.
