A Continuous Time Pattern Recognition Retina
2002
International audience; We present in this paper a pattern recognition retina operating in continuous time. During a programming phase, the reference image is acquired by the sensor. After thresholding, the resulting binary image is stored in the sensor's pixels. During the recognition phase, the retina calculates, in an analog way and in continuous time, the zero displacement intercorrelation of the current image with the binary reference image and its complement. These two intercorrelation values are output as currents. By comparing these currents to expected values, determined during the programming phase, a shift of the pattern or a difference between the observed and programmed pattern…

Target 5G visible light positioning signal subcarrier extraction method using particle swarm optimization algorithm
2021
International audience; With the explosive growth of demand for Internet of Things (IoT) applications and the increasing dependence of users on wireless connections, indoor location based service(LBS) under 5G-Public-Private Partnership (5G-PPP) using cases have received more attention and get rapid development. Thanks to the safty, security and customization of 5G network pointed by 5G forum white paper, indoor positioning systems using unified 5G New Radio (NR) signals have become the focus of the next generation of visible light positioning (VLP) systems. In 5G New Radio(NR) frame, totally 192 subcarriers are used to carry positioning reference signal(PRS). In order to improve the positi…
Optimal Gabor Filters and Haralick Features for Industrial Polarization Imaging
2011
International audience; During the past decade, computer vision methods for inline inspection became an important tool in a lot of industrial processes. During the same time polarization imaging techniques rapidly evolved with the development of electro-optic components, as e.g. the polarization cameras, now available on the market. This paper is dedicated to the application of polarization techniques for visually inspecting complex metallic surfaces. As we will shortly recall, this consists of a direct image interpretation based on the measurement of the polarization parameters of the light reflected by the inspected object. The proposed image interpretation procedure consists of a Gabor p…
On improving the accuracy of Visible Light Positioning system based PAPR reduction schemes
2020
International audience; DC-biased optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DCO-OFDM)-based visible light positioning (VLP) technology along with the Received Signal Strength(RSS) positioning algorithm is widely used to achieve centimeter level positioning accuracy for incoming 5G era, especially indoor environment. However, the DCO-OFDM has the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) issue which imposes the nonlinear distortion and it will directly affect the positioning accuracy in the VLP system. The PAPR reduction scheme is urgently needed. Therefore , in this paper, the impact of PAPR reduction scheme on positioning accuracy is investigated. The positioning accuracy with and witho…

Application of a simple algorithm to estimate daily evapotranspiration from NOAA–AVHRR images for the Iberian Peninsula
2007
International audience; Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key process in land surface–atmosphere studies. It mainly depends on water availability and incoming solar radiation and then reflects the interactions between surface water processes and climate. In this paper, a methodology for retrieving ET from low spatial resolution remote sensing data is presented. It is based on the evaporative fraction concept, and it has been applied to Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AHVRR) data acquired over the Iberian Peninsula. The methodology does not require other data than the data provided by the satellite and may be applied to areas with almost spatially constant atmospheric conditions and whi…
Developing a framework for designing humanitarian blockchain projects
2021
International audience; Blockchain technology promises to improve the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of humanitarian operations. Yet at the same time, especially the humanitarian context with its characteristic volatility poses unique challenges to any technology. Most prominent are the humanitarian principles that are fundamental to humanitarian operations. These ethical principles are set to protect the most vulnerable populations. Designing blockchain projects in the humanitarian context therefore requires a systematic framework that helps humanitarians make critical choices. While some design instructions can be found for commercial applications, the humanitarian context re…
