Immaginazione e relazioni di potere nell’opera di Carl Sauer
2023
The aim of this contribution is to highlight the denunciation of abuse and social inequalities and the domination of some groups of individuals over others in the production of Carl Ortwin Sauer, the father of North American cultural geography. The role of imagination in some works of the American geographer will also be highlighted.
Assessing Virtual Reality as a Tool for Support Imagination
2002
One of the major developments of the second year of human life is the emergence of the ability to pretend (Leslie, 1987). Many children with autism use no pretend play or are impoverished in the quality of their play (Baron-Cohen, 1989). The key factor of our Virtual Reality Software in relation to Pretend Play is the possibility to really show the object transformations we propose when pretending. We hope those technics to drive people with autism to a better understanding of pretense and to enable them to develop a play with more quality.
‘Glocal’ processes in peripheral football countries:A figurational sociological comparison of Finland and Hungary
2015
The aim of this article is to increase the understanding of the global and local contexts in football by finding out what social, cultural and economic dimensions seem to characterize ‘periphery’ football. This study applies figurational sociological perspective, which is applicable to the research on globalization processes and sport. The sources utilized are publications on the history and sociology of football as well as interviews with football practitioners. First, a theoretical framework of the global football figuration is advanced. Second, applying the constructed framework, the concept of periphery football country is discussed. It was found in accordance with previous research tha…
Design considerations of high RAP-content asphalt produced at reduced temperatures
2018
In many countries recycling of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) for road surface layers is limited to a maximum of 10–30%. This is due to technical limitation of common asphalt plant but also to specifications that are still restrictive when it comes to increasing RAP in surface courses. The mistrust in this practice is mainly related to uncertainty in performance of these mixes as well as to existing fundamental issues with the mix design, especially when production temperatures are lowered. This paper analyses some of the factors affecting the design of warm asphalt mixtures for surface course layers containing 50% RAP, and suggests a framework to justify the common assumption of full ble…
Dalle Cronache del mal d’amore al ciclo dell’Amica geniale: continuità ed evoluzione nella narrativa di Elena Ferrante
2019
The paper analyzes the whole narrative production of Elena Ferrante, emphasizing its unity and cohesion. Cohesion coexists with discontinuity: the publication of My Brilliant Friend marks an inventive turning point and reveals new strategies. But it’s even remarkable Ferrante’s predilection for a narrative in which «the flow of storytelling that despite its density manages to sweep you away».
The shared image guiding the treatment process. A precondition for integration of the treatment of schizophrenia.
1994
The aim of the study reported here was to develop psychotherapeutic in-patient treatment for acute schizophrenia, following the principles of a need-adapted approach. To improve the integration of experiences which hospital staff have with acutely psychotic patients and their families, systematic supervision sessions were organised. In these sessions, it was possible to achieve shared psychological images through which the whole staff could integrate patients' behaviour and symptoms, both symbolic and non-symbolic. Such an image was called ‘the shared image guiding the treatment process’ (SIGTP). The process of achieving the SIGTP was interpreted through Peircean semiotics, especially the c…
Temporal features of imagined locomotion in normal aging.
2010
Motor imagery is the ability to mentally simulate a movement without executing it. Previous investigations have reported a deterioration of this ability during complex arm movements in aged adults. In the present study, we aimed to extend these findings by investigating the temporal features of imagined precision gait in healthy elderly adults. Locomotion is a unique example of imagined movement because it involves simulated full-body movement and the concurrent updating of environmental spatial information. Nine young and nine older adults actually or mentally walked (walking distance: 5m) along three paths having different widths (15cm, 25cm, and 50cm). The narrowest path required balance…
Human Surfaces
2020
The influence of eye movements on the temporal features of executed and imagined arm movements.
2007
The very close coordination between eye and hand indicates that eye movements are parts of the neural processes underlying the planning and control of arm movements. Eye movements are fundamental during observed actions and play a functional role in visual mental imagery. However, the role of eye movements during imagined actions is still unknown. Here, we report the timing features of eye and arm pointing movements for nine healthy participants in four conditions: Executed movements with orientation saccades (Eyes Free) or with no saccades (Eyes Motionless), and Imagined movements with Eyes Free or with Eyes Motionless. The first result was a facilitation effect of saccades upon both execu…
Re-Imagining the Border: Border Art as a Space of Critical Imagination and Creative Resistance
2014
Contemporary world is increasingly marked by borders, fences and walls, which run through the spaces we live in. Borders are the result of a composite articulation of material aspects, concerning their external realisation, and structures of imagination, symbolic constructs and conceptual formations that involve the border and make it meaningful. In this dynamic and mutable field, artistic practices and interventions can interrupt and alterate the logic of the border, opening up a space of resistance and critical imagination, where the transparent, immutable and essentialist representation of the border is constantly challenged. Works of artists such as Bajevic, Hatoum, Salcedo, Rosver and …
