Development of methods using phytoalexin (resveratrol) assessment as a selection criterion to screen grapevine in vitro cultures for resistance to gr…

1995

The purpose of this research was, firstly to determine the ability of grapevine in vitro cultures to synthesize resveratrol, a stilbene-type phytoalexin that is considered to be a good marker for resistance of grapevines to Botrytis cinerea, the causal organism for grey mould. Secondly, this study sought to establish the relationship between phytoalexin production potential and resistance to Botrytis cinerea in grapevines. In this aim, resveratrol production was assessed in 13 Vitis species or cultivars. A good correlation appeared between resveratrol production by grapevine in vitro cultures and grey mould resistance except for two Vitis spp. for which no correlation was observed, thus sug…

Production of 6-pentyl-?-pyrone byTrichoderma harzianum from 18?n fatty acid methyl esters

1992

Biosynthesis of 6-pentyl-α-pyrone byTrichoderma harzianum in two different media was evaluated. Best yields were found in nitrogen deficient medium (C/N=60). Limited growth seems to favour the production of this lactone. When fungal cells, precultured in low nitrogen medium, were incubated on methyl ricinoleate (10 g/l, C/N=60) an increase in 6-pentyl-α-pyrone production was observed in comparison with the media containing methyl oleate or methyl linoleate.

Study of a lipase from Candida rugosa Diddens and Lodder

1993

Lipasic system of Candida rugosa (CBS 613) strain was studied. The enzyme was purified in one step by hydrophobic chromatography. The properties of this lipase were determined. It is an oligomeric enzyme composed of five identical monomers of 46 kg · mol−1. Its optimum reaction conditions are pH = 7 and temperature = 40°C. This enzyme presents a rapid thermal denaturation and then a more stable form. It is a cell-bound lipase which is induced by triacyl glycerols. This enzyme presents a high specificity for external positions on glycerol. Production of volatile compounds in model milk and cheese media by eight strains of Geotrichum candidum Link

1994

SummaryEight strains of Geotrichum candidum isolated from cheese were compared for aroma production. Twenty-four components, including alcohols, methyl ketones, fatty acids and esters, were identified by gas–liquid chromatography and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry of the volatile compounds produced by G. candidum cultures. Strains could be differentiated by their ability to produce dimethyldisulphide, phenol, phenylethanol and methyl ketones.

A contribution to the inventory of parasitic microfungi on land plants in Champsaur region (French Alps, “Parc National des Ecrins”).

2023

A preliminary investigation of the flora of parasitic microfungi on land plants is reported, focused upon the mountain and the base of the subalpine ranges, in Champsaur region, (south-western French Alps, mainly within the “Parc National des Ecrins”). Sheltered by 128 host-plant species, 182 species of microfungi have been identified. Their respective distributions, among 24 investigated localities (including four located within the Central Zone of the “Parc National des Ecrins”), are specified. Moreover, seven of these 182 microfungi do not match satisfactorily any of the consulted diagnosis in the specialized literature. Accordingly, a detailed description of the main distinctive traits …

Evaluation of CandiSelect4, a new chromogenic medium for isolation and presumptive identification of Candida species from clinical specimens

2008

Abstract In clinical laboratories, isolation of Candida species is generally based on the culture of specimens on Sabouraud dextrose agar. This strategy does not allow species identification on primary culture and makes it difficult to detect mixed cultures. Chromogenic media contain substrates that react specifically with different Candida species, and partly overcome these difficulties. Objectives The aim of this study was to compare two chromogenic media: (i) CandiSelect4 (C4), a new medium developed for direct identification of C. albicans and presumptive identification of C. krusei , C. tropicalis and C. glabrata (ii) CHROMagar Candida (CH), a medium licensed for direct identification …

Pythium periplocum, an aggressive mycoparasite of Botrytis cinerea causing the gray mould disease of grape-vine.

1999

Pythium periplocum Dreschler has been found to be an aggressive mycoparasite of Botrytis cinerea, the causal agent of the gray mould disease of the grape-vine. When grown together, the former enters the latter's mycelium, branches freely within, coagulates its cytoplasm and finally tears its hyphae apart, bringing about widespread destruction of the grape-vine pathogen. Extensive coiling around the host, as reported in the case of other mycoparasites belonging to the genus Pythium, has not been observed here. The infected mycelium of B. cinerea fails to infect the grape-vine and does not induce the characteristic gray mould symptoms. Since P. periplocum is not a grape-vine parasite, it coul…

Piezoelectric bimorph response with imperfect bonding conditions

2008

The effect of the finite stiffness bonding between the piezoelectric plies of bimorph devices has been investigated. A boundary integral formulation for piezoelasticity, based on a multidomain technique with imperfect interface conditions, has been developed. The imperfect interface conditions between the piezoelectric layers are described in terms of linear relations between the interface tractions, in normal and tangential directions, and the respective discontinuity in displacements. Continuity of the electric potential at the interface is also assumed and an iterative procedure is implemented to avoid interface interference. Numerical analysis has been performed on bimorph configuration…
