The veridical perception of object temperature with varying skin temperature.
1988
The effect of skin-adaptation temperature on object-temperature perception was investigated, using the method of dichiric matching, in an attempt to determine whether veridical perception of physical object temperature occurs in human subjects. Observers were presented with a test temperature on one hand and required to find a matching temperature, that is, one that produced the same sensation, on the other, differently adapted, hand. Using equality of test and matching temperatures as a criterion of veridical perception, it was found that the latter improves with ΔT, the difference between object temperature and skin-adaptation temperature. It is postulated that when ΔT is close to zero, v…
Engineering Sr-doping for enabling long-term stable FAPb1xSrxI3 quantum dots with 100% photoluminescence quantum yield
2021
The Pb substitution in quantum dots (PQDs) with lesser toxic metals has been widely searched to be environmentally friendly, and be of comparable or improved performance compared to the lead-perovskite. However, the chemical nature of the lead substitute influences the incorporation mechanism into PQDs, which has not been explored in depth. In this work, we analyzed Sr-doping-induced changes in FAPbI3 perovskites by studying the optical, structural properties and chemical environment of FAPb1−xSrxI3 PQDs. The substitution of Pb by 7 at% Sr allows us to achieve FAPb1−xSrxI3 PQDs with 100% PLQY, high stability for 8 months under a relative humidity of 40–50%, and T80 = 6.5 m…
The generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz with initial correlations
2018
Within the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) formalism, the Generalized Kadanoff-Baym Ansatz (GKBA) has stood out as a computationally cheap method to investigate the dynamics of interacting quantum systems driven out of equilibrium. Current implementations of the NEGF--GKBA, however, suffer from a drawback: real-time simulations require {\em noncorrelated} states as initial states. Consequently, initial correlations must be built up through an adiabatic switching of the interaction before turning on any external field, a procedure that can be numerically highly expensive. In this work, we extend the NEGF--GKBA to allow for {\em correlated} states as initial states. Our scheme makes i…
From Signal Processing to Machine Learning
2018
This chapter reviews the main landmarks of signal processing in the 20th century from the perspective of algorithmic developments. It focuses on cross‐fertilization with the field of statistical (machine) learning in the last decades. In the 21st century, model and data assumptions as well as algorithmic constraints are no longer valid, and the field of machine‐learning signal processing has erupted, with many successful stories to tell. The chapter also focuses on digital signal processing (DSP), which deals with the analysis of digitized and discrete sampled signals. Machine learning is a branch of computer science and artificial intelligence that enables computers to learn from data. Mac…
A highly stable and hierarchical tetrathiafulvalene-based metal organic framework with improved performance as a solid catalyst
2018
[EN] Herein we report the synthesis of a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF)-based MOF, namely MUV-2, which shows a non-interpenetrated hierarchical crystal structure with mesoporous one-dimensional channels of ca. 3 nm and orthogonal microporous channels of ca. 1 nm. This highly stable MOF (aqueous solution with pH values ranging from 2 to 11 and different organic solvents), which possesses the well-known [Fe3(¿3-O)(COO)6] secondary building unit, has proven to be an efficient catalyst for the aerobic oxidation of dibenzothiophenes.
Enhanced Sieving of C2‐Hydrocarbon from Methane by Fluoro‐Functionalization of In‐MOF with Robust Stability
2021
Developing efficient adsorbent materials is crucial for adsorption and separation to realize the purification of energy source and raw chemicals. Here, we report a novel and robust 3D In-based MOF built up with fluorine-functionalized ligands, QMOF-2F, with improved separation properties of C2-light hydrocarbons over methane at room temperature respect isoreticular non-fluorinated MOF. QMOF-2F shows a remarkable chemical stability in different solvents, including water, and pH (2-12). DFT calculations support the key role of fluorine-functionalization on the improved performance of QMOF-2F.
Learning from Implicit Learning Literature: Comment on Shea, Wulf, Whitacre, and Park (2001)
2003
International audience; In their analysis of complex motor skill learning, Shea, Wulf, Whitacre, and Park (2001) have overlooked one of the most robust conclusions of the experimental studies on implicit learning conducted during the last decade--namely that participants usually learn things that are different from those that the experimenter expected them to learn. We show that the available literature on implicit learning strongly suggests that the improved performance in Shea et al.'s Experiments 1 and 2 (and similar earlier experiments, e.g., Wulf & Schmidt, 1997) was due to the exploitation of regularities in the target pattern different from those on which the postexperimental intervi…
