Theory of Kondo suppression of spin polarization in nonlocal spin valves

2016

We theoretically analyze contributions from the Kondo effect to the spin polarization and spin diffusion length in all-metal nonlocal spin valves. Interdiffusion of ferromagnetic atoms into the normal metal layer creates a region in which Kondo physics plays a significant role, giving discrepancies between experiment and existing theory. We start from a simple model and construct a modified spin drift-diffusion equation which clearly demonstrates how the Kondo physics not only suppresses the electrical conductivity but even more strongly reduces the spin diffusion length. We also present an explicit expression for the suppression of spin polarization due to Kondo physics in an illustrative …

Noise features in InP crystals operating under static, periodic or fluctuating electric fields

2014

The results of a study concerning the intrinsic noise in low-doped n-type InP crystals operating under static, periodic or fluctuating electric fields are shown. To simulate the dynamics of electrons in the bulk, we employ a Monte Carlo approach, by taking into account the main details of band structure, scattering processes, as well as heating effects. The noise features are investigated by computing the velocity fluctuations correlation function, its spectral density and the total noise power, for different values of amplitude and frequency of the driving field. We show how the noise spectra are affected by the electric field frequency and compare their peculiarities with those exhibited …

Direct observation of spin wave focusing by a Fresnel lens

2020

Spin waves are discussed as promising information carrier for beyond complementary metal-oxide semiconductor data processing. One major challenge is guiding and steering of spin waves in a uniform film. Here, we explore the use of diffractive optics for these tasks by nanoscale real-space imaging using x-ray microscopy and careful analysis with micromagnetic simulations. We discuss the properties of the focused caustic beams that are generated by a Fresnel-type zone plate and demonstrate control and steering of the focal spot. Thus, we present a steerable and intense nanometer-sized spin-wave source. Potentially, this could be used to selectively illuminate magnonic devices like nano-oscill…

Electrodynamic Characteristics of a Strip Antenna Located on a Plane Interface of a Resonant Magnetoplasma and an Isotropic Medium

2015

We study the electrodynamic characteristics of an antenna having the form of an infinitesimally thin, perfectly conducting narrow strip located on a plane interface of a resonant magnetoplasma and an isotropic medium. The antenna is perpendicular to an external magnetic field and is excited by a given voltage. Singular integral equations for the antenna current, on the basis of which the current distribution is found in the case of an infinitely long radiator, are obtained. The limits of applicability of an approximate method based on the transmission line theory for determining the current distribution and input impedance of the antenna are established. Within the framework of this method,…

Cross-Spectrum PM Noise Measurement, Thermal Energy, and Metamaterial Filters.

2017

International audience; Virtually all commercial instruments for the measurement of the oscillator PM noise make use of the crossspectrum method (arXiv:1004.5539 [physics.ins-det], 2010). High sensitivity is achieved by correlation and averaging on two equal channels, which measure the same input, and reject the background of the instrument. We show that a systematic error is always present if the thermal energy of the input power splitter is not accounted for. Such error can result in noise underestimation up to a few decibels in the lowest-noise quartz oscillators, and in an invalid measurement in the case of cryogenic oscillators. As another alarming fact, the presence of metamaterial com…

Isomer and decay studies for the rp process at IGISOL

2012

This article reviews the decay studies of neutron-deficient nuclei within the mass region \ensuremathA=56--100 performed at the Ion-Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility in the University of Jyväskylä over last 25 years. Development from He-jet measurements to on-line mass spectrometry, and eventually to atomic mass measurements and post-trap spectroscopy at IGISOL, has yielded studies of around 100 neutron-deficient nuclei over the years. The studies form a solid foundation to astrophysical rp -process path modelling. The focus is on isomers studied either via spectroscopy or via Penning-trap mass measurements. The review is complemented with recent results on the ground and is…

JYFLTRAP: a Penning trap for precision mass spectroscopy and isobaric purification

2012

In this article a comprehensive description and performance of the double Penning-trap setup JYFLTRAP will be detailed. The setup is designed for atomic mass measurements of both radioactive and stable ions and additionally serves as a very high-resolution mass separator. The setup is coupled to the IGISOL facility at the accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. The trap has been online since 2003 and it was shut down in the summer of 2010 for relocation to the upgraded IGISOL facility. Numerous atomic mass and decay energy measurements have been performed using the time-of-flight ion-cyclotron resonance technique. The trap has also been used in several decay spectroscopy expe…

Tuhoisa influentsa tarttui leskipastorska Pihlin kotikirjastoon: pandemian vaikutus 1800-luvun perheen kirjakokoelmaan

2023

The role of hedonics in the Human Affectome.

2019

International audience; Experiencing pleasure and displeasure is a fundamental part of life. Hedonics guide behavior, affect decision-making, induce learning, and much more. As the positive and negative valence of feelings, hedonics are core processes that accompany emotion, motivation, and bodily states. Here, the affective neuroscience of pleasure and displeasure that has largely focused on the investigation of reward and pain processing, is reviewed. We describe the neurobiological systems of hedonics and factors that modulate hedonic experiences (e.g., cognition, learning, sensory input). Further, we review maladaptive and adaptive pleasure and displeasure functions in mental disorders …
