First data on the taxonomic diversity of the Portulaca oleracea aggregate (Portulacaceae) in Iran
2017
The review of specimens from Iran belonging to the Portulaca oleracea L. aggregate resulted in the recognition of six microspecies: P. cypria Danin, P. granulatostellulata (Poelln.) Ricceri & Arrigoni, P. nitida (Danin & H.G.Baker) Ricceri & Arrigoni, P. rausii Danin, P. socotrana Domina & Raimondo, and P. trituberculata Danin, Domina & Raimondo, all reported for the first time for the flora of Iran. The identification was based on the microscopic study of seeds. It is noted that P. oleracea is not confirmed for Iran. Distribution data and an identification key for Portulaca microspecies in Iran are presented.
Fuzzy Degree of Geographic Appropriateness for Social Impact Investing
2017
Impact investing is an investment practice that is characterized by the explicit intentionality of attaining a social impact and the requisite of report and measure this impact in a transparent way. The investment decision making process has two main stages. In the first stage, filters are applied regarding four critical issues: target geography, impact theme, asset class and target return category. In this phase, the set of possible investment alternatives are determined based on their appropriateness for impact investment in terms of those four essential aspects. In a second stage, efficient portfolios are obtained taking into account financial criteria (maximizing expected return, minimi…
Challenges and Opportunities for Renewable-Based Microgrids Integration in Vietnam
2020
Vietnam is among the South-Asian regions the one that better supplies remote areas. However, many islands and remote areas are still not connected to the main grid and this fact jeopardizes their development, while forcing people to move to urban areas. With a high potential from renewable energy sources and a lot of islands, Vietnam has thus many favorable environmental features for developing the microgrids technology. In this chapter, a detailed analysis about opportunities and challenges for widespread deployment of microgrids technology in Vietnam is considered. Such analysis is based on the assessments of the potential from renewable energy sources in the country and of the national p…
Assessing the MALDI-TOF MS sample preparation procedure to analyze the influence of thermo-oxidative ageing and thermo-mechanical degradation on poly…
2011
[EN] Multiple processing by means of successive injection cycles was used to simulate the thermo-mechanical degradation effects on the oligomeric distribution of PLA under mechanical recycling. Likewise, an accelerated thermal ageing over PLA glass transition was performed in order to simulate its service life. MALDI-TOF MS was used for the analysis and the sample preparation procedure was assessed by means of a statistical Design of Experiments (DoE). The quality effects in use for the analysis were signal-to-noise ratio and Resolution. Different matrixes, analyte/matrix proportions and the use of NaTFA as cationization agent were considered. A deep inspection of the statistical results pr…
Resolución de problemas, modelos mentales e instrucción
2007
Targeted therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma: novel agents on the horizon.
2012
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common liver cancer, accounting for 90% of primary liver cancers. In the last decade it has become one of the most frequently occurring tumors worldwide and is also considered to be the most lethal of the cancer systems, accounting for approximately one third of all malignancies. Although the clinical diagnosis and management of early-stage HCC has improved significantly, HCC prognosis is still extremely poor. Furthermore, advanced HCC is a highly aggressive tumor with a poor or no response to common therapies. Therefore, new effective and well-tolerated therapy strategies are urgently needed. Targeted therapies have entered the field of anti-neopl…
Conquests and perspectives of cardio-oncology in the field of tumor angiogenesis-targeting tyrosine kinase inhibitor-based therapy
2015
Abstract: Introduction: Angiogenesis is fundamental for tumor development and progression. Hence, anti-angiogenic drugs have been developed to target VEGF and its receptors (VEGFRs). Several tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have been developed over the years and others are still under investigation, each anti-VEGFR TKI showing a different cardiotoxic profile. Knowledge of the cardiac side-effects of each drug and the magnitude of their expression and frequency can lead to a specific approach. Areas covered: This work reviews the mechanism of action of anti-VEGFR TKIs and the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to cardiotoxicity, followed by close examination of the most important drugs i…
Foreign Direct Investment, Terms of Trade, and Quality Upgrading: What Is So Special about South Asia?
2016
The existing literature has highlighted the positive effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on export upgrading and associated terms of trade in developing economies. However, the FDI effect has been found to be negative in South Asia. In this paper, we elaborate on the South Asia-specific effect by emphasizing the role of human capital in the positive link between FDI and terms of trade. We argue that education levels in South Asia have lagged behind those in East Asia and other developing regions. This has resulted in a world market integration strategy in South Asia that specializes in less skills-intensive products and generates associated FDI flows. We demonstrate these patterns fo…
Strengthened splitting methods for computing resolvents
2021
In this work, we develop a systematic framework for computing the resolvent of the sum of two or more monotone operators which only activates each operator in the sum individually. The key tool in the development of this framework is the notion of the “strengthening” of a set-valued operator, which can be viewed as a type of regularisation that preserves computational tractability. After deriving a number of iterative schemes through this framework, we demonstrate their application to best approximation problems, image denoising and elliptic PDEs. FJAA and RC were partially supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain and the European Regional Development Fund …
