Frequency of mesiodens in the pediatric population in North India: A radiographic study
2013
Objectives: Mesiodens are the most common supernumerary teeth, occurring in 0.15% to 2.2% of the population. The aim of the present study was to analyze the frequency and radiological features of mesiodens in the pediatric population. Material and methods: The study was based on the radiographic evaluation of 4133 pediatric patients of the age range of 4-15 years, attending the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology during the time period between September 2008 to December 2012. In addition to the presence of a supernumerary tooth between the 2 central incisors, data regarding the number, position, shape and associated complications were also recorded. Results: The prevalence of mesioden…
Incidence, severity and orthodontic treatment difficulty index of impacted canines in Saudi population
2018
Background The objective of this study was to assess the incidence, severity and orthodontic treatment difficulty of impacted maxillary canines in Saudi population. Material and methods This retrospective study included an investigation of panoramic radiographs for patients attended College of Dentistry, Jazan University, Saudi Arabia. The incidence of canine impaction and orthodontic treatment difficulty index of maxillary canine impaction was assessed based on; (1) patient age, (2) vertical position, (3) buccolingual position, (4) horizontal position, (5) incisors alignment, (6) canine space, (7) midline coincidence, (8) rotation of impacted tooth. Statistical analyses were calculated by …
Occurrence and timing of complications following traumatic dental injuries: A retrospective study in a dental trauma department
2016
Background This study explores the pattern of complications occurrence resulting from traumatic dental injuries, the relation of this pattern to the number of years from the time of the injury to its first diagnosis, and other contributing characteristics such as root development and trauma characteristic. Material and Methods Patients’ data treated following dental trauma from 2002 to 2014 were classified and grouped according to age, gender, tooth type, injury type, diagnosis and the time that elapsed between the traumatic event and the diagnosis of complications (TIC). The distribution function of the quantitative parameters was determined with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Fisher exact t…
Electronic buccal drug delivery system to treat addiction and chronic diseases: A porcine study in the frame of “IntelliDrug” project
2006
examination followed by the administration of a risk factor questionnaire. A cervical, buccal, occlusal/incisal, and lingual score was recorded for each tooth using a modified version of the Tooth Wear Index (Smith and Knight, 1984). Rank correlations, one-way and two-way ANOVA were used to test for associations between risk factors and percent of surfaces with wear. Results: 44 patients (31.9%) had at least one cervical lesion 1-2mm deep. 118 patients (85%) had dentin exposure on at least one incisal edge. Cervical lesions were most frequently observed on mandibular 1 premolars. Incisal/occlusal wear was most common on mandibular central incisors. Age was significantly correlated with over…
Hybrid ameloblastoma and central giant cell lesion : challenge of early diagnosis
2020
Hybrid lesions encompass the occurrence of different entities in one lesion. A 67-year-old woman was referred to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service for treatment of mandibular Central Giant Cell Lesion (CGCL) previously diagnosed. Intraoral examination revealed edentulism and a painless swelling extending from the alveolar ridge to the buccal vestibule with hard consistency covered by normal mucosae, with unknown duration. Panoramic radiograph revealed a large, multilocular and well-defined radiolucent lesion extending from the region of left mandibular lateral incisor teeth to right mandibular first molar with no evidence of osseous perforation. Initially, a treatment with intrales…
Post-orthodontic position of lower incisors and gingival recession: A retrospective study
2017
Background To evaluate if changes in lower incisor position following orthodontic treatment are correlated with development of gingival recessions. Material and methods Pre- and post-treatment digital models and lateral cephalograms of 22 subjects were collected retrospectively. The clinical crown length, gingival scallop, and papilla height of the central lower incisor were measured along with the cephalometric incisor's inclination, the distance from the mandibular plane, and the distance between the Infradentale and Menton points. Statistical correlations between gingival and cephalometric variables were studied. In addition, two groups were defined based on the post-treatment incisor in…
Minimally invasive prosthetic procedures in the rehabilitation of a bulimic patient affected by dental erosion
2015
The population affected by dental erosion due to bulimia is generally very young. This population group has a high aesthetic requirement; the dentition in these patients is severely damaged, especially in the anterior maxillary quadrant. In terms of treatment, it is still controversial whether an adhesive rehabilitation is preferable to a longer-lasting but more aggressive conventional treatment, such as full-crown coverage of the majority of teeth. This case report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation of a young female patient previously affected by bulimia nervosa and presenting erosion of the maxillary teeth. The prosthetic rehabilitation was performed through indirect adhesive restor…
Spatial-temporal analysis of hospitalizations with death caused by oral cancer in Brazil and its correlation with the expansion of healthcare coverag…
2022
Oral cancer (OC) is a growing public health problem worldwide. In Brazil, the National Oral Health Policy, implemented in 2004, expanded access to oral health services and prioritized OC care. However, it is not known whether this expansion resulted in a reduction in hospital admissions with death. This study aimed to analyze the proportion of hospital admissions who progressed to death due to OC in Brazil from 2007 to 2019 and its correlation with the coverage of health services. This study is an ecological, longitudinal, and analytical study of hospital admissions with death due to OC recorded in the Brazilian Hospital Information System. The following analyses were performed: descriptive…
