Osteogénesis imperfecta y educación física: Un caso inédito de inclusión educativa

2018

The main objective of this work is to investigate the inclusive treatment experienced by a student with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and their peers in an undergraduate course with contents related to physical education. Data collection was performed over a semester through informal conversations with the lecturer, in depth and semi-structured interviews, and an open-response questionnaire. The study reveals the stigma suffered by the student, both personal and academic (especially in physical education classes), and the ignorance and insecurity demonstrated by future teachers about this disease and how to perform an inclusive treatment in their classes. The adjustments made by the lecturer of t…

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PATTERNS OF ADOLESCENTS WITH LONG TERM ILLNESSES OR DISABILITIES IN FINNISH GENERAL EDUCATION

2014

Physical activity (PA) of adolescents with long term illnesses or disabilities (LTID) in general education is examined to provide evidence of PA levels from specific population groups. This study describes the PA levels of adolescents with LTID based on recommendations of daily 60mins of moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) and vigorous leisure time PA (VPA) of at least two times a week for at least one hour per week. Finnish data from the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study was pooled from 2002 and 2010 surveys. 1126 respondents (14.6%) self-reported as having a LTID and details of main categories of LTID were used to examine PA behaviours. Overall, 15.6% of adolescents with LT…

Health Implications of Judo Training

2021

Although current physical activity (PA) guidelines regarding aerobic and anaerobic training are helpful for the population at large, many individuals prefer to engage in alternative forms of PA such as combat sports. As both a martial art and sport, judo is a physically demanding form of PA that potentially offers a novel experience, consequently leading to greater PA adherence. This study aimed to thoroughly search the existing literature to determine the health benefits of judo-specific training. PubMed and Web of Science were searched for original research studies. Only peer-reviewed studies that examined the effects of judo training in males and females aged 18–35 were included in the s…

A socio-ecological approach to physical activity interventions in childcare: a systematic review

2014

The promotion of physical activity (PA) in young children requires effective interventions. This article reviews the evidence on PA interventions in childcare by applying a socio-ecological approach. A computer-based literature search for intervention studies aimed at increasing children's PA levels was run across four databases: SPORTDiscus, ISI Web of Science, PsycINFO and ERIC. The participants had to be in childcare, aged 2-6-year-old, and their pre- and post- intervention PA levels measured. Selection was restricted to peer-reviewed publications and to studies conducted in childcare settings. Twenty-three studies met the inclusion criteria and their methodological quality was assessed.…

Gill anomalies of perch and roach from four lakes differing in water quality

1997

This study examined gill anomalies of two common freshwater fish species, roach Rutilus rutilus and perch Perca fluviatilis, collected over five seasons in 1989–1990 from four lakes in central Finland. The lakes differed both in water quality and in fish parasite species composition. Particular attention was paid to the differences in chloride cell proliferation. Gill anomalies were generally more common and abundant in roach than in perch. Chloride cell proliferation was the most frequent histological change in roach but was that least often found in perch. Most of the changes were systemic and light in severity. In perch an unidentified lesion of noncellular eosinophilic inclusions in an …

Supramolecular functionalization and concomitant enhancement in properties of Au25 clusters

2014

We present a versatile approach for tuning the surface functionality of an atomically precise 25 atom gold cluster using specific host-guest interactions between ?-cyclodextrin (CD) and the ligand anchored on the cluster. The supramolecular interaction between the Au25 cluster protected by 4-(t-butyl)benzyl mercaptan, labeled Au25SBB18, and CD yielding Au25SBB18?CDn (n = 1, 2, 3, and 4) has been probed experimentally using various spectroscopic techniques and was further analyzed by density functional theory calculations and molecular modeling. The viability of our method in modifying the properties of differently functionalized Au25 clusters is demonstrated. Besides modifying their optoe…

Questioning Human Rights: The Case of Education for Children and Youth with Disabilities in Ethiopia

2016

This chapter focuses on the politics of education as a basic human right. We analyze the challenges and opportunities implied in realizing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and operationalizing the human rightsbased approach to disability (HRBAD) with a case study on the inclusion of children and youth with disabilities in the regular education system of Ethiopia. The existing situation is highlighted with lived experiences of persons with disabilities and comments by organisations of persons with disabilities, education professionals, and government officials who were interviewed between August and October 2013 in Ethiopia. When successful, the HRBAD and its critica…

Deepen Into the Social Segregation of Secondary Schools in the Community of Madrid

2021

2021

[ENIn the last 10 years we have seen an increase in the number of publications related to the inclusion in university classrooms of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome or high functioning autism. This article summarizes the literature on the presence of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders at the University and reflects on the need to develop specific programs for their care within the framework of support services for students with disabilities or other similar service structures. Among the specific measures, we have found experiences on awareness programs for teachers and students with the aim of generating a culture about "autism", programs to treat anxiety, m…
