An Analysis of the Residential Segregation of Foreigners in the Municipality of Palermo

Ethnic residential segregation in Italy is emerging as a key question, which will be crucial in the definition and implementation of both urban and social policies. This chapter focuses on this phenomenon in the Italian Metropolitan Area of Palermo. We use individual data for all the population residing in the city on 31 December 2011, organised by ethnicity and neighbourhood to describe the spatial distribution and the residential segregation of foreigners in the city, applying many different segregation measures. Results show that the top ten nationalities in Palermo are not uniformly spread across the different parts of the city but tend to cluster in specific areas. The most segregated …

Przedmiotem przeprowadzonych badań była analiza wpływu podstawników na aromatyczność pierścieni pochodnych karbazolu. Związki te charakteryzują się dobrymi właściwościami optycznymi i fotoprzewodnictwem, stąd też są obiektem badań w inżynierii materiałowej. W pracy sprawdzono jak charakter elektronowy podstawnika, miejsce podstawienia oraz orientacja względem płaszczyzny pierścieni karbazolu ma wpływ na zmiany w n-elektronowej delokalizacji w obrębie całego układu karbazolu. On the Substitutability between Paid-employment and Self-employment: Evidence from the Period 1969–2014 in the United States

This paper provides estimates of the elasticity of substitution between operational and managerial jobs in the US economy during the years 1969–2014, derived from an aggregate CES production function. Estimating the long-term relationship between (the log of) the aggregate employment/self-employment ratio and (the log of) the returns from paid-employment relative to self-employment and testing for structural breaks, we report different estimates of the elasticity of substitution in each of the two regimes identified. Naturalistic reading paradigms and stimuli consisting of long continuous texts are essential for characterizing the cortical basis of reading. Due to the highly dynamic nature of the reading process, electrophysiological brain imaging methods with high spatial and temporal resolution, such as magnetoencephalography (MEG), are ideal for tracking them. However, as electrophysiological recordings are sensitive to electromagnetic artifacts, data recorded during naturalistic reading is confounded by ocular artifacts. Body Weight, Physical Activity, and Risk of Cancer in Lynch Syndrome

Simple Summary Lifestyle modifies cancer risk in the general public. How lifestyle modifies cancer risk in individuals carrying the inherited pathogenic gene variants in DNA mismatch repair genes (Lynch syndrome) remains understudied. We conducted a retrospective study with cancer register data to investigate associations between body weight, physical activity, and cancer risk among Finnish Lynch syndrome carriers (n = 465, 54% women). The results of our study indicated that longitudinal weight gain increases cancer risk, whereas being highly physically active during adulthood could decrease cancer risk in men. Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot, kādas saistības pastāv starp emocionālās ēšanas, ķermeņa masas indeksa (ĶMI), vecuma, uztvertā stresa un ēšanas pārliecību rādītājiem sievietēm. Kā arī noskaidrot, kuri no uztvertā stresa, ēšanas pārliecību dimensijas un ĶMI rādītājiem statistiski nozīmīgi paredz emocionālās ēšanas rādītājus un kuras no ēšanas pārliecībām statistiski nozīmīgi paredz augstāku ĶMI sieviešu izlasē. Pētījumā piedalījās 192 sievietes vecuma grupā no 18 līdz 66 gadiem ar normālu ĶMI (ĶMI ≤ 25). The role of microRNAs in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the effects of antiandrogen therapy on microRNA expression is still not fully understood.
