Abstract In this paper, I re-examine the notion of ‘clause-as-representation’ in Michael Halliday’s systemic functional theory of language. I argue that ‘representation’ is a mode of linguistic action that cannot be understood in terms of the experiential metafunction alone. Instead, a theoretical account of representation must be undertaken in relation to all the metafunctions. Rejecting encodingist accounts of representation, I develop the argument that representations are interactively constituted and emergent in languaging activity. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar entrevistas realizadas a 30 mujeres de 21 a 40 años de edad de sectores socioeconómicos medios y bajos y un corpus de sus fotografías publicadas online durante el proceso de su embarazo, poniéndolo en diálogo con las fotografías online del Ministerio de Salud de la Nación de campañas de cuidados de salud en el embarazo en Argentina. At the beginning of Being and Time, Heidegger rejects Husserl’s classical phenomenology on three grounds: he claims that Husserlian phenomenology is impaired by indeterminate concepts, by naïve personalism, and by obscurities in its account of individuation. The paper studies the validity of this early critique by explicating Husserl’s discourse on human persons as bodily-spiritual beings and by clarifying his account of the principles by which such beings can be individuated. I aim at demonstrating how both Nicholas of Cusa and Leibniz glean from the platonic school of thought the idealistic notion of ‘truth as expression’, orienting it towards the singularity of being. I will also reveal a second assumption derived from the philosophia perennis by both thinkers: the idea of philosophy as hypothetic and intersubjective undertaking.
