CD39 is highly involved in mediating the suppression activity of tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T regulatory lymphocytes

CD39 is an ectoenzyme, present on different immune cell subsets, which mediates immunosuppressive functions catalyzing ATP degradation. It is not known whether CD39 is expressed and implicated in the activity of CD8+ regulatory T lymphocytes (Treg). In this study, CD39 expression and function was analyzed in both CD8+ and CD4+CD25hi Treg from the peripheral blood of healthy donors as well as from tumor specimens. CD39 was found expressed by both CD8+ (from the majority of healthy donors and tumor patients) and CD4+CD25 hi Treg, and CD39 expression correlated with suppression activity mediated by CD8+ Treg. ChemInform Abstract: Experimental and Theoretical Studies on the Electronic Spectra of Indole-3-acetic Acid and Its Anionic and Protonated Species.

Abstract The geometrical and electronic structure of indole-3-acetic acid (IAH) have been investigated using the MINDO/3 molecular orbital method, the geometries being optimized by Rinaldi's method. The UV spectrum of IAH has been recorded in different solvents. The corresponding spectra of IAH + 2 and IA − were also respectively obtained, from IAH in different H 2 SO 4 /water mixtures and NaOH solutions. The agreement of experimental spectra with the ones theoretically calculated by the CNDO/M-Cl method after optimization of the κ parameter, is discussed. The p K a values of IAH have also been determined from the IAH + 2 spectra and are compared with literature data.

Photoreduction of carbon dioxide to formic acid in aqueous suspension: a comparison between phthalocyanine/TiO2 and porphyrin/TiO2 catalysed processes

Composite materials prepared by loading polycrystalline TiO2 powders with lipophilic highly branched Cu(II)- and metal-free phthalocyanines or porphyrins, which have been used in the past as photocatalysts for photodegradative processes, have been successfully tested for the efficient photoreduction of carbon dioxide in aqueous suspension affording significant amounts of formic acid. The results indicated that the presence of the sensitizers is beneficial for the photoactivity, confirming the important role of Cu(II) co-ordinated in the middle of the macrocycles. Heterocyclic rings are recognized as key components of many natural, semi-synthetic and synthetic molecules with a broad spectrum of biological activities. Among these molecules, the indole and imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole systems have recently been described as useful scaffolds for the design of anticancer agents. Herein the antitumor activity of a series of 3-(6-phenylimidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-yl)-1H-indoles, designed as hybrid structures, was assessed. Moguntinones--new selective inhibitors for the treatment of human colorectal cancer.

Abstract 3-Indolyl and 3-azaindolyl-4-aryl maleimide derivatives, called moguntinones (MOG), have been selected for their ability to inhibit protein kinases associated with angiogenesis and induce apoptosis. Here, we characterize their mode of action and their potential clinical value in human colorectal cancer in vitro and in vivo. Anti-tubulin agents are important chemotherapeutics. Combretastatin A-4 (CA-4) emerged as lead compound for the design of new tubulin-binding agents. Its analogues 4,5-diarylisoxazoles, containing the [1,2]oxazole ring as linker of two aryl moieties, displayed higher antitubulin activity than CA-4. [1,2]oxazolo[5,4-e]isoindoles also gave excellent results reducing cell growth of NCI-60 tumor cell lines and diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (DMPM) cells. Pancreatic cancer is a complex malignancy arising from the accumulation of genetic and epigenetic defects in the affected cells. Mitogenic effects of phospholipase D and phosphatidic acid in transiently permeabilized astrocytes: effects of ethanol.

Investigations of lipid-mediated signalling pathways are often limited by a lack of methods for the intracellular delivery of lipid messengers. We established a procedure for the transient permeabilization of astrocytes by an oxygen-insensitive mutant of streptolysin-O (SLO) to investigate the participation of the phospholipase D (PLD) signalling pathway in astroglial cell proliferation. Exogenous PLD, when incubated in the presence of SLO, caused an increase in DNA synthesis (measured by thymidine incorporation) which was completely suppressed by ethanol (0.3%, v/v).
