Interaction between seismicity and deformation on different time scales in volcanic areas: Campi Flegrei and Stromboli

We study oscillations recorded at Stromboli and Campi Flegrei by different sensors: seismometers, strainmeters and tiltmeters. We examine both the high-frequency (>0.5 Hz) portion of the spectrum and very long period signals up to tidal scales. In this context, seismicity and deformation are investigated on different time scales (from minutes to days/years) in order to identify the basic elements of their interaction, whose understanding should provide new insights on the predictive models. Abstract. We plan to deploy in the Taranto Gulf some Ocean Bottom broadband Seismometer with Hydrophones. Our aim is to investigate the offshore seismicity of the Sibari Gulf. The seismographic network optimization consists in the identification of the optimal sites for the installation of the offshore stations, which is a crucial factor for the success of the monitoring campaign. Monochromatic Long-Period Seismicity Prior to the 2012 Earthquake Swarm at Little Sitkin Volcano, Alaska

Detection of the earliest stages of unrest is one of the most challenging and yet critically needed aspects of volcano monitoring. We investigate a sequence of five unusual long-period (LP) earthquakes that occurred in the days prior to the onset of a months-long volcano-tectonic (VT) earthquake swarm beneath Little Sitkin volcano in the Aleutian Islands during late 2012. The long-period earthquakes had two distinctive characteristics: their signals were dominated by a monochromatic spectral peak at approximately 0.57 Hz and they had impulsive P and S-wave arrivals on a seismometer located on Amchitka Island 80 km to the southeast of the volcano. Lack of correlation between apoptosis and DNA single-strand breaks in X-irradiated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells in the course of ageing

The dependence on age of both the basal and the X-radiation-induced levels of apoptosis was examined in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). In the same samples, the base value and the extent of induced DNA single-strand breaks were determined, using a sensitive and fast microplate assay. PBMC were isolated from blood of donors of various age groups (20-30, 40-60 and > 70 years of age) and X-irradiated ex vivo using a 6 MV linear accelerator to give a total exposure of 4 Gy. The mean basal levels of apoptosis in PBMC from donors in the 40-60 year age group and the > 70 year age group were found to be only slightly higher (by 20-10%) compared to that of the 20-30 year age group, …

Suppose that G is a finite group. In this note, we show that a local condition about Sylow normalizers is equivalent to a global condition on the degrees of certain irreducible Brauer characters of G. Theorem A. Let G be a finite ”p; q•-solvable group, and let Q ∈ SylqG‘ and P ∈ SylpG‘. Then every irreducible p-Brauer character of G of q′degree has p′-degree if and only if NGQ‘ is contained in some G-conjugate of NGP‘. Theorem A needs a solvability hypothesis. If p = 7, then the irreducible p-Brauer characters of the group G = PSL2; 27‘ have degrees ”1; 13; 26; 28•. If we set q = 2, then each q′-degree is also a p′-degree.

During the host location process, egg parasitoids rely on a series of chemical stimuli from the host/plant complex. In particular, in tritrophic systems consisting of plants, herbivorous stink bugs and their egg parasitoids, previous studies demonstrated that wasps are attracted by oviposition-induced plant volatiles (OIPVs). These compounds act as indirect plant defence mechanism allowing plants to recruit egg parasitoids, which are in general the most important natural enemies of stink bugs. In previous studies we reported a new photocatalytic system involving polycrystalline TiO2 for the selective functionalisation of heteroaromatic bases with ethers and amides. In order to extend the applications of this new reaction and to better understand the mechanism involved, we have examined aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes as acyl radical sources for the nucleophilic addition to protonated N-heteroarenes in acetonitrile as the solvent and TiO2/H2O2 as the photocatalytic system. Charge loss correction in CZT pixel detectors at low and high fluxes: analysis of positive and negative pulses

Charge losses are typical drawbacks in cadmium–zinc–telluride (CZT) pixel detectors. The effects of these phenomena are strongly related to the interaction point of the photons and are more severe for photon interactions at the inter-pixel gap and near the pixelated anode.
