Modular P-Chirogenic Aminophosphane-Phosphinite Ligands for Rh-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation: A New Model for Prediction of Enantioselectivity

2007

An original series of P-chirogenic aminophosphane-phosphinite (AMPP) ligands has been synthesized from (+)- or(–)-ephedrine in 23 to 61 % overall yields by a versatile three-step methodology. The AMPP ligands, bearing either one or two P-chirogenic centers, were used in the form of rhodium complexes for the catalyzed hydrogenation of α-acetamidocinnamate as a test reaction. Notably, even with AMPP ligands all derived from (+)-ephedrine, variation of the substituent on a P-center allowed the phenylalanine derivatives to be obtained in either (S) or (R) absolute configurations, with ee values ranging from 99 % (S) to 88 % (R). The asymmetric induction was analyzed with the aid of X-ray struct…

Novel Immunomodulatory Markers Expressed by Human WJ-MSC: an Updated Review in Regenerative and Reparative Medicine.

2012

Mesenchymal (stromal) stem cells (MSC) are a broad class of stromal populations which are able to differentiate towards mature cell types, and do express molecules involved in immune modulation, tolerance induction and inflammation dampening. MSC can be virtually isolated from each adult organ, as well as from foetus-associated perinatal tissues. In particular, Wharton's jelly-derived MSC (WJ-MSC) bear all of these key properties, together with their ease of sourcing and lack of ethical issues. Cellular therapy is a key technique in regenerative medicine approaches, in particular for the treatment of diseases in which physiological processes of cellular repopulation are blocked by the under…

N1-Functionalized Indole-Phosphane Oxazoline (IndPHOX) Ligands in Asymmetric Allylic Substitution Reactions

2012

N-Functionalized IndPHOX ligands bearing various groups have been synthesized and the effects of the N1-substituent on the reaction rate, yield, and asymmetric induction in a palladium-catalyzed allylic substitution reaction are reported. The presence of an oxygen atom in the ligands, namely an N-MOM or N-THP group, led to enhancement of the enantioselectivity in the allylic amination reaction. In addition, a ligand with a chiral oxazoline ring at C-1 and a phosphane substituent at C-2 provided high enantioselectivity in good yield in an asymmetric allylic alkylation reaction.

Recommended practice for out-of-hospital emergency anaesthesia in adults: Statement from the Out-of-Hospital Emergency Anaesthesia Working Group of t…

2016

Emergency anaesthesia is an important therapeutic measure in out-of-hospital emergency medicine. The associated risks are considerably higher than those of in-hospital anaesthesia. The primary objectives of emergency anaesthesia are hypnosis, analgesia, oxygenation and ventilation through airway management. The secondary objectives of emergency anaesthesia are amnesia, anxiolysis, the reduction of oxygen consumption and respiratory work, the protection of vital organs and the avoidance of secondary myocardial and cerebral damage. A critical evaluation of the indications for outof- hospital emergency anaesthesia must take into consideration patient, case and provider-related factors. Rapid s…

Anomalous magnetic hysteresis in the microwave surface resistance of MgB2 superconductor

2007

We report experimental results of the field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance in samples of MgB2, produced by different methods. By sweeping the DC magnetic field at increasing and decreasing values, we have detected a magnetic hysteresis that can be ascribed to the different magnetic induction, due to the critical state of the fluxon lattice. The hysteresis observed in the bulk samples has an unusual shape, which cannot be justified in the framework of the critical-state models.

Diagnosis of inverter-fed induction motors in short time windows using physics-assisted deep learning framework

2019

This article presents a framework for accurate fault diagnostics in inverter-fed induction machinery operating under variable speed and load conditions within very short time windows. Condition indicators based on fault characteristic frequencies observed over the extended Park's vector modulus are fused with deep features extracted using stacked autoencoders to generate a multidimensional feature space for fault classification using support vector machine. The proposed approach is demonstrated in a laboratory setup to detect the most commonly occurring faults, namely, the stator turns fault, broken rotor bars fault and bearing fault with an accuracy > 98% within a short time window of 2–3 …

Microwave-free magnetometry with nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond

2016

We use magnetic-field-dependent features in the photoluminescence of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy centers to measure magnetic fields without the use of microwaves. In particular, we present a magnetometer based on the level anti-crossing in the triplet ground state at 102.4 mT with a demonstrated noise floor of 6 nT/$\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$, limited by the intensity noise of the laser and the performance of the background-field power supply. The technique presented here can be useful in applications where the sensor is placed closed to conductive materials, e.g. magnetic induction tomography or magnetic field mapping, and in remote-sensing applications since principally no electrical acces…

Speed control of double-sided linear induction motors for automated manufacturing systems

2014

The double-sided linear induction motor (DLIM) is acquiring a significant relevance in the application of automated manufacturing systems. For this purpose, the modeling, simulation and determination of the parameters of a double-sided linear induction motor is presented in this paper. Furthermore, the DLIM constant voltage/frequency speed control system for this application is here described. In order to verify the performance of the proposed system, a suitable test bench for the DLIM motor is set-up. From the good agreement shown by the comparison between measured and simulated results, it can be stated that the DLIM model and the speed control system is successfully validated. © 2014 IEE…

Experimental Implementation of an Enhanced Field Oriented Control Strategy for Induction Motors Using a Low-Cost ATSAM3X8E Microcontroller

2020

This paper presents a low-cost Micro Controller Unit (MCU) implementation of an enhanced Field Oriented Control (FOC) technique that takes into account the non-linearity of the ferromagnetic material. The algorithm is applied to a three-phase 5.5 kW Induction Motor (IM) and experimentally carried out by means of an ATMEL ATSAM3X8E microcontroller. The effectiveness of the enhanced control strategy is verified by comparing the dynamic performances of the electric drive with those obtained by means of a traditional FOC technique. For this purpose, an experimental test bench is set up for the implementation of the enhanced FOC technique. Finally, the technical and economic features of the simp…
