Abstract Producing materials causes about 25% of all anthropogenic CO2 emissions. Metals play a significant role, steel and aluminum account for 24% and 3% of worldwide material related emissions respectively. Fostering resources efficiency strategies in the field of sheet components could lead to a significant environmental impact reduction. Reshaping could be one of the most efficient strategy to foster material reuse and lower the environmental impact due to material production. Occlusion handling is essential to provide a seamless integration of virtual and real objects in AR applications. Different approaches have been presented with a variety of technologies, environment conditions and methods. Among these methods, 3D model-based occlusion approaches have been extensively used. Visual saliency detection in colour images based on density estimation

2017

International audience; A simple and effective method for visual saliency detection in colour images is presented. The method is based on the common observation that local salient regions exhibit distinct geometric and and texture patterns from neighbouring regions. We model the colour distribution of local image patches with a Gaussian density and measure the saliency of each patch as the statistical distance from that density. Experimental results with public datasets and comparison with other state-of-the-art methods show the effectiveness of our method.

Tolerating malicious monitors in detecting misbehaving robots

This paper considers a multi–agent system and focuses on the detection of motion misbehavior. Previous work by the authors proposed a solution, where agents act as local monitors of their neighbors and use locally sensed information as well as data received from other monitors. In this work, we consider possible failure of monitors that may send incorrect information to their neighbors due to spontaneous or even malicious malfunctioning. In this context, we propose a distributed software architecture that is able to tolerate such failures. Effectiveness of the proposed solution is shown through preliminary simulation results.

It aims at selecting, among a set of proteins, those (named biomarkers) which enable to discriminate between two groups of individuals (healthy and pathological). To this end, data is available for a cohort of individuals: the biological state and a measurement of concentrations for a list of proteins. The proposed approach is based on a Bayesian hierarchical model for the dependencies between biological and instrumental variables. Fast ultrasonic phased array inspection of complex geometries delivered through robotic manipulators and high speed data acquisition instrumentation

Performance of modern robotic manipulators has enabled research and development of fast automated non-destructive testing (NDT) systems for complex geometries. This paper presents recent outcomes of work aimed at removing the bottleneck due to data acquisition rates, to fully exploit the scanning speed of modern 6-DoF manipulators. State of the art ultrasonic instrumentation has been integrated into a large robot cell to enable fast data acquisition, high scan resolutions and accurate positional encoding.
