This paper considers the problem of local capacity H∞ control for a class of production networks of autonomous work systems with time-varying delays in the capacity changes. The system under consideration is modeled in a discrete-time singular form. Attention is focused on the design of a controller gain for the local capacity adjustments which maintains the work-in-progress (WIP) in each work system in the vicinity of planned levels and guarantees the asymptotic stability of the system and reduces the effect of the disturbance input on the controlled output to a prescribed level. Design of unknown inputs proportional integral observers for TS fuzzy models

In this paper the design of unknown inputs proportional integral observers for Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models subject to unmeasurable decision variables is proposed. These unknown inputs affect both state and output of the system. The synthesis of these observers is based on two hypotheses that the unknown inputs are under the polynomials form with their kth derivatives zero for the first one and bounded norm for the second one, hence two approaches. Chaos synchronization for a class of chaotic systems via H<inf>&#x221E;</inf> control technique

In this paper, the robust synchronization control for a class of chaotic systems is studied. Based on linear matrix inequality techniques and Lyapunov stability theory, a novel H∝ robust synchronization controller is designed for the possible application in real engineering. Finally, some numerical simulations are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.
Observer-based sliding mode control for stabilization of a dynamic system with delayed output feedback

First by utilizing Lyapunov stability theory and a linear matrix inequality technique, an observer based on delayed output feedback is constructed. Then, an integral sliding surface is presented to realize the sliding mode control for the system with the more available stability condition. Finally, some numerical simulations are implemented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control method.
H<inf>&#x221E;</inf> controller design for the synchronization of a hyper-chaotic system

In this paper, the robust control on the synchronization of a hyper-chaotic system is investigated. Based on Lyapunov stability theory and linear matrix inequality techniques, the multi-dimensional and the single-dimensional robust H∞ synchronization controllers are constructed for the possible application in practical engineering. Some numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented controllers.

National fiscal consolidations and regional inequality in Europe

Using annual data for 13 European countries over the period 1980-2008, we assess the impact of national fiscal consolidations on the income inequality of European regions. Regional dispersion increases in the outcome of consolidation episodes, particularly, when packages are more severe and implemented through spending cuts rather than tax rises. From a policy perspective, these findings suggest that fiscal consolidations driven by reductions in government spending can exacerbate regional disparities and may ultimately counteract the European policy efforts to promote territorial cohesion. Fiscal adjustments and income inequality: a first assessment

Using a statistical approach to identify fiscal adjustments, we find that fiscal consolidation appears to shorten the income gap. Fiscal austerity plans that succeed in bringing public debt to a sustainable path seem to be more likely to reduce inequality. Expansionary fiscal adjustments are particularly important to promote changes in the income distribution.
Income inequality, fiscal stimuli and political (in)stability

Using data for a large panel of countries, this paper investigates the role played by income inequality and fiscal stimuli episodes in shaping the likelihood of political stability. By means of Tobit estimations, we show that a rise in inequality increases the probability of government crises. However, such adverse distributional effect is reduced when expansionary or increasingly expansionary fiscal stimuli episodes or successful fiscal stimuli programs are put in place.
