Experimental validation of a quaternion-based attitude estimation with direct input to a quadcopter control system

This paper presents a method to calculate the attitude quaternion of a quadcopter with few calculations. The quaternion calculation is based on accelerometers and gyroscopes from an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The quaternion from the accelerometer is calculated as the shortest rotation arc from the gravity vector in the navigation frame. The quaternion from the gyroscope is calculated based on equations of the quaternion derivative. A complementary filter is combining the two quaternions with a componentwise comparison. A Hybrid Algorithm Based on WiFi for Robust and Effective Indoor Positioning

Indoor positioning based on the Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) protocol and the Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) approach is widely exploited because of the existing WiFi infrastructure in buildings and the advancement of built-in smartphone sensors. In this work, a hybrid algorithm that combines WiFi fingerprinting and PDR to both exploit their advantages as well as limiting the impact of their disadvantages is proposed. Gait variability observed in step duration is predictive of impending adverse health outcomes among apparently healthy older adults and could potentially be evaluated using wearable sensors (inertial measurement units, IMU). The purpose of the present study was to establish the reliability and concurrent validity of gait variability and complexity evaluated with a waist and an ankle-worn IMU. Seventeen women (age 74.8 (SD 44) years) and 10 men (73.7 (4.1) years) attended two laboratory measurement sessions a week apart. miMic, a sonic analogue of paper and pencil is proposed: An augmented microphone for vocal and gestural sonic sketching. Vocalizations are classified and interpreted as instances of sound models, which the user can play with by vocal and gestural control. The physical device is based on a modified microphone, with embedded inertial sensors and buttons. Sound models can be selected by vocal imitations that are automatically classified, and each model is mapped to vocal and gestural features for real-time control.
