Valore relazionale dello spazio pubblico dei servizi e welfare urbano
2023
2022
Achieving sustainable development goals in port cities is an increasingly challenging task as the trend is toward their expansion for global competition, thus increasing their impacts on soil, atmosphere, water, and marine and terrestrial ecosystems. The present contribution proposes to explore the Building with Nature approach developed by EcoShape and Deltares in the Dutch context through the comparison of case studies and to highlight some critical issues in its transferability to the Italian context.
On the strategies for the diffusion of EVs: Comparison between Norway and Italy
2017
The aim of this work is to estimate e-mobility trends, which are crucial for understanding the market and the infrastructure expansion over the next years and debate which are the persuasive policies to improve the diffusion. At the present time between the numerous and diverse standards and rules there are two charging types for electric vehicles: high power DC and AC charging modes. It will be stimulating to understand which technology will overcome in the following few years and if the charging mode option on a given electric vehicle (EV) affects its sales results. This paper addresses the existing e-mobility scenario in Norway and Italy, in particular evaluating: EV technical and commer…
Fingerprint Traits and RSA Algorithm Fusion Technique
2012
The present work deals with modern computing systems security issues, focusing on biometric based asymmetric keys generation process. Conventional PKI systems are based on private/public keys generated through RSA or similar algorithms. The present solution embeds biometric information on the private/public keys generation process. In addition the corresponding private key depends on physical or behavioural biometric features and it can be generated when it is needed. Starting from fingerprint acquisition, the biometric identifier is extracted, cyphered, and stored in tamper-resistant smart card to overcome the security problems of centralized databases. Biometric information is then used f…
Brevi note sulla qualificazione giuridica dei beni costituenti la rete ferroviaria
2015
The paper synthetically describes how Italian courts and scholars interpret- ed the legal transformations occurred to the railway market, and notably to the rail-network’s infrastructure components property regulation, since the end of the twentieth century. The authors refute the (prevailing) opinion assuming a substantial continuity between the current stage of regulation and the regime of public property provided by the 1942 civil code; they show the reasons why, on the contrary, the rail-network components have to be considered as goods sub- ject to private property law both on the formal and the substantial floor. For this purpose, the paper emphasizes how the public interests aimed by…
The Design and Execution of Performance Management Systems at State Level: a Comparative Analysis of Italy and Malaysia
2014
Performance management is maturing as an effective approach in public organizations around the world in improving public services. However, the existing models, based primarily on best practices of first-world nations, have limitations that must be addressed. One of which is the relative lack of attention to the context of performance management reform. This international comparative case study analyses the experience of Italy and Malaysia in the design and execution of performance management systems at the national level. It seeks to contribute to the comparative literature on performance management across national jurisdictions. Italy and Malaysia also offer a contrasting study given thei…
Foreign (In)Direct Investment in Chinese Contemporary Art Game: The Case Studies of Uli Sigg, Guy Ullens and beyond, 1989-2013
2021
The boom in Chinese contemporary art is the result of China’s opening to foreign investment and private entrepreneurship in 1978, and the significant contribution by the transnational art enterprises of long-term patron-investor-collectors, such as Uli Sigg and Guy Ullens, between approximately 1989 and 2013. Through the opportunity offered by the gap between the private market mechanism and national heritage process for the “art game”, these investors used a variation of the controversial “Saatchi model” to generate high ROI. A further effect has been to bring CCA onto the global stage and complete the ecosystem of the art industry, building a foundation for the art economy of post-Mao Chi…
Performance Analysis of Cooperative V2V and V2I Communications Under Correlated Fading
2019
Cooperative vehicular networks will play a vital role in the coming years to implement various intelligent transportation-related applications. Both vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications will be needed to reliably disseminate information in a vehicular network. In this regard, a roadside unit (RSU) equipped with multiple antennas can improve the network capacity. While the traditional approaches assume antennas to experience independent fading, we consider a more practical uplink scenario where antennas at the RSU experience correlated fading. In particular, we evaluate the packet error probability for two renowned antenna correlation models, i.e., cons…
Digitalized bioeconomy: Planned obsolescence-driven circular economy enabled by Co-Evolutionary coupling
2019
Driven by digital solutions, the bioeconomy is taking major steps forward in recent years toward achievement of the long-lasting goal of transition from a traditional fossil economy to a bioeconomy-based circular economy. The coupling of digitalization and bioeconomy is leading towards a digitalized bioeconomy that can satisfy the shift in consumers’ preferences for eco-consciousness, which in turn induces coupling of up-down stream operation in the value chain. Thus, the co-evolution of the coupling of digitalization and bioeconomy and of upstream and downstream operations is transforming the forest-based bioeconomy into a digital platform industry. Aiming at addressing this transformation…
