First record of Beroe gracilis Künne, 1939 (Ctenophora: Beroida: Beroidae) from Norway, found in a Mnemiopsis leidyi A. Agassiz, 1865 bloom

2015

In September 2014 an unusual mixture of ctenophores was recorded at Arboretet, south-western Norway and at Flødevigen, near Arendal on the south coast of Norway. In addition to the invasive American lobate ctenophore,Mnemiopsis leidyi, the common northern lobate ctenophoreBolinopsis infundibulumand the cydippidPleurobrachia pileus, two beroid ctenophores, were noted –Beroe cucumisandBeroegracilis. The latter species had not been documented before in Norwegian waters.

A comparison of cytoplasmic and nuclear estradiol and progesterone receptors in human fallopian tube and endometrial tissue

1981

Quantitative and qualitative aspects of the in vitro binding of 3 H-estradiol and 3 H-progesterone to receptor components from human endometrium and fallopian tube cytoplasmic and nuclear fractions were studied. The steroid binding macromolecules formed in vitro could be extracted from nuclei by 0.4M KCl and detected by glycerol gradient centrifugation. Both estradiol- and progesterone-binding compounds formed only one peak (under high ionic strength conditions) with a sedimentation coefficient of about 4-5S. The number of cytoplasmic and nuclear binding sites for both estradiol and R5020 varied dramatically throughout the menstrual cycle: the estradiol and progesterone receptor concentrati…

Vergleich der Wertigkeit von Magnetresonanztomographie und Computertomographie bei Patienten mit Nelson-Syndrom

1992

The hypophyses of 13 patients with Nelson syndrome following bilateral adrenalectomy were examined by MRI and CT. Diffuse enlargement of the hypophysis was demonstrated in 8 patients by CT and in 9 by MRI. Compared with CT, MRI provides better demonstration of tumour development, such as abnormal convexity of the cranial margin of the hypophysis (MRI 4/13, CT 1/13), displacement of the infundibulum (MRI 4/13, CT 0/13) or optic chiasm (MRI 2/13, CT 0/13). MRI also provides diagnostically important differentiation between scar tissue and recurrence of tumour following hypophysectomy (MRI 1/3, CT 0/3) and more accurate demonstration of infiltration of the cavernous sinus (MRI 4/13, CT 2/13). C…

MR IMAGING AND HORMONAL FINDINGS IN PATIENTS WITH IDIOPATHIC GROWTH HORMONU DEFICIENCY

1993

Until the introduction of MR imaging in neuroradiological diagnostic, diagnosis of the ecotopic posterior pituitary lobe, first described by the pathologist Priesel in 1920, was rare. Recently it has increasingly been diagnosed by MR in patients whose anamnesis showed birth trauma. We performed MR of the hypothalamic-pituitary region in 17 patients with idiopathic growth hormone deficiency. 8 patients had additional deficiencies of the anterior pituitary lobe whereas the function of the posterior lobe of the hypophysis was normal in all patients. Indications of birth trauma were present in only 2 patients. The cause of anterior lobe insufficiency was determined by MR in 8 patients with panh…

Microneedling dilates the follicular infundibulum and increases transfollicular absorption of liposomal sepia melanin

2015

Gabriel Serrano,1 Patricia Almudéver,2 Juan M Serrano,3 Julio Cortijo,2 Carmen Faus,1 Magda Reyes,1 Inmaculada Expósito,3 Ana Torrens,3 Fernando Millán1 1Clínica Dermatológica Serrano, 2Department of Pharmacology, University of Valencia, 3Research and Development Department, Sesderma Laboratories, Valencia, Spain Abstract: Encapsulation of chemicals in liposomes and microneedling are currently used techniques to enhance the penetration of several substances through skin and hair. In this study, we apply a liposomal melanin–fluorescein compound to an ex vivo model of human skin, using a new electrical microneedling device (Nano…
