Investigation of the hygienic safety of aromatic plants cultivated in soil contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

2012

Abstract The present work was undertaken to investigate the survival of Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19114T in soil during the whole crop cycle of rocket (Eruca sativa Mill.) and basil (Ocimum basilicum L.), to monitor its transfer to the leaves, and to evaluate its viability at harvest. To this purpose, the soil was N–P–K fertilized and four trials, obtained with different combinations of soil treatment, listerial inoculums and seed planting, were followed for each aromatic plant. Soil was weekly investigated for total microbial counts and L. monocytogenes evolution. At the starting time, un-inoculated autoclaved soil showed a limited microbial load (103 CFU g dw−1), while un-inoculated non…

Evaluation of the enhanced resistance of Ogataea (Hansenula) polymorpha to benzalkonium chloride as a resource for bioremediation technologies

2019

Abstract Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) is highly abundant in wastewaters due to its wide application in household and industrial products. The aim of this research was to compare the resistance of two genetically related strains, Ogataea polymorpha (wild type) and O. polymorpha cat8Δ (recombinant strain), to enhanced concentrations of BAC (≥ 100 mg/L) in terms of its appearance in wastewaters. Inhibition of the respiration activity of wt and cat8Δ by 100 mg/L and 300 mg/L BAC in a xylose-containing broth (4 g/L xylose) was dependent on the carbon source used for obtaining the yeast biomass through ethanol fermentation. The respiration activity of wt in a liquid broth was inhibited by BAC, whi…

Taxonomic Revision of the Genus Trictenotoma Gray, 1832 (Coleoptera: Trictenotomidae). Part 2 – Species from Hainan and Taiwan

2020

Trictenotoma davidi Deyrolle, 1875 and T. formosanaKriesche, 1919 are the only insular Palaearctic Trictenotomidae. Both species are related and T. formosana was originally defined on the basis of unstable morphological features and originally described as a subspecies of T. davidi. In this paper, a detailed redescription of T. formosana is provided, male and female genital organs are described and illustrated for the first time and the lectotype is designated. Hainan (China) records of T. davidi are presented and morphological variability of this taxon is discussed. The first observation of Trictenotomidae mating behaviour is briefly described.

Crab spiders of the families Thomisidae and Philodromidae (Arachnida: Araneae) from Iran

2004

Spiders of the families Thomisidae and Philodromidae (Arachnida, Araneae) mainly collected in the mountainous areas of Iran in 1978 are taxonomically studied and classified into 21 species of 10 genera. Most species are illustrated and described on the basis of the present specimens. Except for only two species, Xysticus kulczynskii Wierzbicki 1902 and Synaema globosum (Fabricius 1775), already known from this country, 19 species are new records to the Iranian fauna. Of these, 14 species, Tmarus stellio Simon 1875, Xysticus ninnii Thorell 1872 (subsp. fusciventris Crome 1965), X. cristatus (Clerck 1758), X. kochi Thorell 1872, X. gallicus Simon 1875, Oxyptila nigrita Thorell 1875, Heriaeus …

Pembesaran Ikan Nila (Oreochromis niloticus) pada Budidaya Sistem Resirkulasi Menggunakan Filtrasi Tanaman Hydrilla verticillata dan Ceratophyllum de…

2021

Kelangsungan hidup ikan selamat pemeliharaan yaitu 100%. Pertumbuhan bobot mutlak individu berkisar 8.76 sampai 16.6 g…

Antibacterial effect of a new haemostatic agent on oral microorganisms

2011

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of a newly developed haemostatic agent Ankaferd Blood Stopper® (ABS) and Ferric Sulphate (FS) on various oral microorganisms. Study design: Bacterial strains were freshly incubated in their specific broth media. For each of the strains, 3 wells per each agent, with a 5 mm diameter were made under aseptic conditions in the specific agar media. Then they were filled with a test agents or 0.2% chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX) (control group). After 24h and 48h incubation periods, inhibition zones were measured. Results: ABS showed antibacterial effect on all test microorganisms except Lactobacillus acidophilus and La…

Development of  a qPCR assay for specific quantification of Botrytis cinerea on grapes

2010

The aim of this study was to develop a system for rapid and accurate real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) identification and quantification of Botrytis cinerea , one of the major pathogens present on grapes. The intergenic spacer (IGS) region of the nuclear ribosomal DNA was used to specifically detect and quantify B. cinerea . A standard curve was established to quantify this fungus. The qPCR reaction was based on the simultaneous detection of a specific IGS sequence and also contained an internal amplification control to compensate for variations in DNA extraction and the various compounds from grapes that inhibit PCR. In these conditions, the assay had high efficiency (97%), and the limit o…

In vitroplant regeneration and gene transfer in the wild tomatoLycopersicon cheesmanii

2001

SummaryThis paper reports on protocols for in vitro plant regeneration, gene transfer and on shoot salt tolerance from two accessions of L. cheesmanii (Riley). Shoot organogenesis was achieved on media with zeatin or BA/IAA combinations. The two accessions tested, LA1401 and LA530, showed differences in both their aptitude to regenerate and their salt tolerance in vitro. The accession LA530 had a higher organogenic potential than LA1401 (97% vs. 80% of organogenic explants). In contrast, none of the LA530 isolated shoots rooted when cultured in full strength MS-modified medium supplemented with 200.mM NaCl while 93% of shoots from LA1401 formed roots. Finally, Agrobacterium-mediated transfo…

Anaphylaxie nach gleichzeitiger Impfung gegen Masern, Mumps, Röteln und Frühsommer-Meningoenzephalitis aufgrund einer Gelatineallergie

2006

Most allergic reactions after vaccination occur in patients sensitive to egg protein. Therefore this subject is well investigated, and the majority of common vaccines today contain only traces of egg protein. In contrast, there is little knowledge of hypersensitivities to other substances frequently contained in vaccines, e. g. antibiotics, phenol, gelatin and different preservatives. Here we report the case of a boy who had an anaphylactic reaction after being vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and tick-born encephalitis (TBE) simultaneously. Different tests finally revealed a hypersensitivity to gelatin. This should be kept in mind especially during emergency care, since ge…
