This study aimed at evaluating the changing scenario of etiology, presentation, management and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma in Italy during the last 15 years. Methods Retrospective analysis of the ITA.LI.CA (Italian Liver Cancer) database including 5192 hepatocellular carcinoma patients managed in 24 centers from 2000 to 2014. Abstract Objectives The aim of this study is to evaluate the activity and toxicity of fulvestrant, a pure estrogen receptor antagonist in patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer, expressing estrogen and/or progesterone receptors (ER/PR). Methods Eligible patients with advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer not amenable to curative surgery and/or radiotherapy were treated with fulvestrant at a dose of 250mg by IM injection every 4weeks for at least 12weeks. Abstract Introduction To evaluate the effects of combined therapy using intravitreal Aflibercept (IVA) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) on polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy related to pachychoroid disease (PPCV).Methods Patients with PPCV were treated with PDT combined with 3 IVA injections on a monthly basis, followed by pro re nata criteria. The 12-month follow-up consisted of multiple revaluations of visual acuity and SSOCT parameters of clinical activity.Results Nineteen eyes were included in the study; mean age was 65.5 years. Injection-Locked Flashlamp-Pumped Dye Lasers Of Very Narrow Linewidth

Very high spectral quality flashlamp-pumped dye lasers are described, in which spectral narrowing is achieved by injection-locking of pulsed amplifying cavities to the wavelength of low power single-mode cw lasers. With the help of a fast electronic stabilization of the cavity length, we obtain a reliable complete injection. Peak powers up to 12 kW in 300 ns at a bandwith of 6 MHz are achieved over a 150 nm tuning range between 572 and 722 nm. The repetition rate is 10 Hz, limited mainly by the circulating pumps. Applications of these lasers are found in high resolution coherent Raman spectroscopy and nonlinear difference frequency mixing.

The problem of the accelerated analysis of oscillating amplifiers is addressed. To achieve both computational efficiency and adequate accuracy also in case of transmission-type, transistor-based, circuit structures, a novel approach is proposed which makes use of a general reduced-order model of the injected oscillator. A perturbation-refined analysis method is thus applied, which permits to derive the first-order exact set of differential equations that describes the system behavior in the fundamental-frequency complex-envelope domain. Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is a mitochondrially inherited form of visual dysfunction caused by mutations in several genes encoding subunits of the mitochondrial respiratory NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase complex (complex I). Development of gene therapies for LHON has been impeded by genetic heterogeneity and the need to deliver therapies to the mitochondria of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), the cells primarily affected in LHON. 24 hours following a cold induced oedema in cats rCBF was measured in the lesion area, the bluish stained cortex immediately adjacent to the lesion, a cortical area remote from the lesion, and in the contralateral uninjured hemisphere. Thereafter the brain was frozen and the respective tissue areas were removed and analyzed for water and electrolyte content as well as metabolite concentrations. It seems, that in the neighbourhood of a local lesion at least 3 different brain regions can be differentiated with regard to their characteristic pattern of data.
