Do teachers’ professional vision and teaching experience always go hand in hand? Examining knowledge-based reasoning of Finnish Grade 1 teachers
2021
This mixed-method study explored 54 Finnish Grade 1 teachers' professional vision and teaching experience. Teachers' retrospective think-aloud interviews, conducted while watching their eye-tracking recordings of classroom actions, were analysed according to the domains of knowledge-based reasoning. Negative associations between teaching experience and amount of knowledge-based reasoning were found. The qualitative examination of three teachers with different amounts of teaching experience provided concrete examples and broadened the findings. We suggest that teachers’ knowledge-based reasoning should be seen not only as an ability that increases with experience but also as an ability that …
Statistical misconceptions, awareness, and attitudes towards open science practices in Slovak psychology researchers
2023
In the years following the reproducibility crisis in behavioral sciences, increased attention of the scientific community has been dedicated to the correct application of statistical inference and promotion of open science practices. In the present survey, we contacted psychology researchers, lecturers, and doctoral students from all universities in Slovakia and the Slovak Academy of Sciences via email. Together we re-ceived answers from 65 participants. Questions in the survey covered the most common misconceptions about statistical hypothesis testing, as well as awareness, attitudes, and barriers related to the adherence to open science practices. We found a high prevalence of statistical…
The development of Early Mathematical Skills – A Theoretical Framework for a Holistic Model
2019
This article presents a theoretical framework for a holistic model of the development of early mathematical skills in early childhood education. The first aim of this study was to conduct a comprehensive international review of the literature to explore early mathematical skills categories. The literature review yielded three early mathematical skills categories, namely (1) numerical skills, (2) spatial thinking skills and (3) mathematical thinking and reasoning skills. Previous studies have shown that several mathematical skills develop gradually and simultaneously in early ages and that these skills areas are interconnected in mathematical skills learning. Accordingly, the second aim of t…
Evolutionary trade-offs in a small mammal : a quantitative genetics approach
2017
Limited resources force individuals to trade-off between life-history traits. A vast diversity of life-history strategies, which optimally combine life history traits, can be found. Knowledge of the genetic basis of this phenotypic variation is key to understanding evolutionary processes. I approached life-history evolution by estimating quantitative genetic parameters for a set of life-history traits in the bank vole (Myodes glareolus). The work is based on a laboratory-kept colony subjected to two-way selection for litter size (High- (H) and Low- (L) lines). Costs of the created reproductive strategies were observed in natural conditions. Selection increased the difference in litter size …

Analysis of MAC-level throughput in LTE systems with link rate adaptation and HARQ protocols
2015
LTE is rapidly gaining momentum for building future 4G cellular systems, and real operational networks are under deployment worldwide. To achieve high throughput performance, in addition to an advanced physical layer design LTE exploits a combination of sophisticated mechanisms at the radio resource management layer. Clearly, this makes difficult to develop analytical tools to accurately assess and optimise the user perceived throughput under realistic channel assumptions. Thus, most existing studies focus only on link-layer throughput or consider individual mechanisms in isolation. The main contribution of this paper is a unified modelling framework of the MAC-level downlink throughput of …

Rezultāti: statistiski nozīmīga atšķirība ir I pakāpes keratokonusa pacientu nekoriģētajam redzes asumam (P=0,029), visu pacientu vidējām pahimetrijas izmaiņām (P=0,004), I pakāpes pacientu sfēriskā ekvivalenta izmaiņām (P=0,045). Atslēgas vārdi: keratokonuss, kroslinkings, redzes asums, radzenes biezums, refrakcija.
Radzenes biomehānisko parametru izmaiņas pēc kroslinkinga pacientiem ar keratokonusu
2019
Ievads: Pateicoties mūsdienu tehnoloģijām iespējams noteikt radzenes biomehāniskos parametrus, kurus klīniski var pielietot daudziem mērķiem. Piemēram, tādējādi iespējams diagnosticēt radzenes ektātiskās slimības jau to agrīnajās stadijās, proti, pirms parādās klīniskie simptomi un izmaiņas topogrāfijā, tostarp uzraudzīt slimības gaitu, izvērtēt terapijas efektivitāti, kā arī izvairīties no keratektāzijas pēc refraktīvās ķirurģijas. Pētījuma mērķis: Noteikt radzenes biomehāniskos parametrus keratokonusa pacientiem pirms un pēc radzenes kolagēna-kroslinkinga (CXL) 12 mēnešu periodā, pamatojoties uz Corvis ST (OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, Vācija) ierīces datiem. Balstoties uz iegūtajiem datiem, i…
