Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa tutkitaan venäjänkielisten lukiolaisten kieli-identiteettiä puolistrukturoidun yksilöhaastattelun avulla. Suomessa asuu paljon venäläisiä maahanmuuttajia, ja ajan myötä ilmestyy jo toisen sukupolven maahanmuuttajia, joiden kotikielenä saattaa hyvinkin olla vielä venäjä. Olisi hyödyllistä tietää erityisesti venäjänkielisten nuorten kieli-identiteeteistä, jotta voidaan tarkastella, miten hyvin he ovat kotoutuneet, miten he ylläpitävät äidinkieltänsä ja kenenä he itseänsä pitävät. Tämän pro-gradu tutkielman tarkoitus on selvittää opettajien käsityksiä ja uskomuksia maahanmuuttajaoppilaista englannin ja ruotsin kielten oppijoina sekä maahanmuuttajaoppilaiden käsityksiä omasta vieraiden kielten oppimisestaan. Lisäksi tarkastelen miten maahanmuuttajaoppilaat on otettu huomioon suomalaisen koulun arjessa ja opetuksessa ja millaisia tietoja ja taitoja opettajilla on kohdata maahanmuuttajaoppilaita. The Predictors of Literacy Skills among Monolingual and Bilingual Finnish–Swedish Children During First Grade

The aim of the study was to examine which predictor variables are related to literacy skills among monolingual Swedish (n = 269) and bilingual Finnish–Swedish (n = 229) children at the first grade in the Swedish-speaking schools in Finland. The participants were assessed in phonological awareness, letter knowledge, rapid automatized naming (RAN), word recognition, reading fluency, and spelling. The results showed that RAN was the most significant predictor of reading and spelling skills in both language groups, and monolingual children performed significantly better in RAN. Tractional Motion Machines extend GPAC-generable functions

In late 17th century there appeared the Tractional Motion instruments, mechanical devices which plot the curves solving differential equations by the management of the tangent. In early 20th century Vannevar Bush’s Differential Analyzer got the same aim: in this paper we’ll compare the Differential Analyzer mathematical model (the Shannon’s General Purpose Analog Computer, or GPAC) with the Tractional Motion Machine potentials. Even if we will not arrive in defining the class of the functions generated by Tractional Motion Machines, we’ll see how this class will strictly extend the GPAC-generable functions.

In a Domus article published in 1998, John Thackara claimed that design would lead by entropy in the future, and he won- dered how to avoid a similar dystopian scenario. As designers, we are aware of how wicked problems are really hard to face and how complexity has increased in these past decades: trans- disciplinary skills are therefore increasingly required. Further- more, we can only achieve incremental improvements to the situation, because a wicked problem typically has no definitive solution (Rittel, Webber 1973, in Erlhoff, 2008): a new mind- set is therefore required, one that is capable of overcoming our traditional one (Morin, 2015), in order to face and manage the complexity.
