Vanadium-based Ziegler-Natta catalyst supported on MgCl2(THF)2 for ethylene polymerization
1996
A supported magnesium‐vanadium‐aluminium catalyst was prepared by depositing –with the use of a milling technique–VOCl3 on the MgCl2(THF)2 support and subsequent activation with diethylaluminium chloride. Catalytic activity of the obtained system for ethylene polymerization was evaluated as a function of Mg/V and Al/V ratios as well as catalyst ageing time and polymerization temperature. High concentrations of THF in the catalytic system and considerable excess of an organoaluminium co‐catalyst were found to have no deactivating action on vanadium active sites. The catalyst obtained is stable and its activity for ethylene polymerization is high. It yields polyethylene with higher molecular …
A neutron diffraction study of the glass transition in (KBr)0.47(KCN)0.53
1985
Abstract The molecular crystal (KBr) 0.47 (KCN) 0.53 has been investigated by elastic neutron diffraction at the transition from the paraelastic to the orientational glass state. The freezing temperature is characterized by the onset of a momentum transfer dependent broadening of the diffraction lines indicating the transition from a crystalline to an amorphous state.
Total Synthesis of Lavendamycin by a [2+2+2] Cycloaddition
2011
The total synthesis of the bacterial-derived, pentacyclic, antitumor antibiotic lavendamycin has been achieved through a highly convergent strategy. The key step of this synthesis is a ruthenium-catalyzed [2+2+2] cycloaddition of an electron-deficient nitrile to an alkynyl-ynamide to prepare the carboline scaffold. The elaborate cycloaddition substrate is obtained in few steps by an N-ethynylation using alkynyliodonium salt chemistry and two palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. An efficient synthesis of a halogenated quinoline-5,8-dione building block starting from hydroquinone is presented.
Iron(iii) oxamato-catalyzed epoxidation of alkenes by dioxygen and pivalaldehyde
1997
A new iron(III)–carbonato monomeric complex of orthophenylenebis( oxamato) (opba) 1 is synthesized, and spectroscopically and structurally characterized; it is a moderately efficient non-heme catalyst for the aerobic epoxidation of alkenes with co-oxidation of pivalaldehyde. Geminal parahydrogen-induced polarization: accumulating long-lived singlet order on methylene proton pairs
2020
In the majority of hydrogenative parahydrogen-induced polarization (PHIP) experiments, the hydrogen molecule undergoes pairwise cis addition to an unsaturated precursor to occupy vicinal positions on the product molecule. However, some ruthenium-based hydrogenation catalysts induce geminal hydrogenation, leading to a reaction product in which the two hydrogen atoms are transferred to the same carbon centre, forming a methylene (CH2) group. The singlet order of parahydrogen is substantially retained over the geminal hydrogenation reaction, giving rise to a singlet-hyperpolarized CH2 group. Although the T1 relaxation times of the methylene protons are often short, the singlet order has a long…
Substituent Effects on the [N-I-N](+) Halogen Bond
2016
We have investigated the influence of electron density on the three-center [N-I-N](+) halogen bond. A series of [bis(pyri din e) io dine](+) and [1,2-bis ( (pyridin e-2-71 ethynyl)b e nze n e)io dine](+) BF4- complexes substituted with electron withdrawing and donating functionalities in the para-position of their pyridine nitrogen were synthesized and studied by spectroscopic and computational methods. The systematic change of electron density of the pyridine nitrogens upon alteration of the para-substituent (NO2, CF3, H, F, Me, OMe, NMe2) was confirmed by N-15 NMR and by computation of the natural atomic population and the pi electron population of the nitrogen atoms. Formation of the [N-…
Enhanced Permeability and Retention-like Extravasation of Nanoparticles from the Vasculature into Tuberculosis Granulomas in Zebrafish and Mouse Mode…
2018
The enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect is the only described mechanism enabling nanoparticles (NPs) flowing in blood to reach tumors by a passive targeting mechanism. Here, using the transparent zebrafish model infected with Mycobacterium marinum we show that an EPR-like process also occurs allowing different types of NPs to extravasate from the vasculature to reach granulomas that assemble during tuberculosis (TB) infection. PEGylated liposomes and other NP types cross endothelial barriers near infection sites within minutes after injection and accumulate close to granulomas. Although similar to 100 and 190 nm NPs concentrated most in granulomas, even similar to 700 nm liposo…
Effects of NH3 and alkaline metals on the formation of particulate sulfate and nitrate in wintertime Beijing
2020
Sulfate and nitrate from secondary reactions remain as the most abundant inorganic species in atmospheric particle matter (PM). Their formation is initiated by oxidation (either in gas phase or particle phase), followed by neutralization reaction primarily by NH3, or by other alkaline species such as alkaline metal ions if available. The different roles of NH3 and metal ions in neutralizing H2SO4 or HNO3, however, are seldom investigated. Here we conducted semi-continuous measurements of SO4 2−, NO3 −, NH4 +, and their gaseous precursors, as well as alkaline metal ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+) in wintertime Beijing. Analysis of aerosol acidity (estimated from a thermodynamic model) indicat…
Ammonium adsorption, desorption and recovery by acid and alkaline treated zeolite
2021
In this study, the suitability of zeolite as a possible medium for ammonium adsorption, desorption and recovery from wastewater was investigated. Specifically, batch adsorption and desorption studies with solutions enriched in NH$_4^+$ were conducted employing zeolite to evaluate how the chemical treatment and contact time affect adsorption and desorption. Several experimental tests were carried out considering both untreated and treated zeolite. Untreated and HCl-Na treated zeolite adsorbed up to 11.8 mg NH$_4^+$ g$^{-1}$ and showed the highest efficiency in recovering NH$_4^+$ from aqueous solution. Regardless of pre-treatment, treatments with NaCl resulted in higher and faster adsorption…
A comparative study of advanced oxidative processes: Degradation of chlorinated organic compounds in ultrafiltration fractions of kraft pulp bleachin…
2016
Oxidative pre-treatment methods such as the Fenton oxidation, ozonation, and photocatalytic treatment have been compared in reducing adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) and chlorophenolic compounds in untreated kraft pulp bleaching effluent. Their efficiency was also studied on effluent ultrafiltration fractions. The Fenton treatment removed all analyzed chlorophenolic compounds from the effluent. Ozonation and photocatalysis appeared to be much less effective methods. The efficiency of the Fenton oxidation appeared to be more pronounced in higher molecular weight effluent fractions. This suggests a novel design, where the filtration stage can be placed after the oxidation, and the high- -mol…
