Gas phase heterogeneous partial oxidation reactions

Abstract Mixed metal oxides are used as catalysts in the gas phase partial oxidation of hydrocarbons. This paper will present the principles of catalyst choice for selective oxidation reactions as well as the structural features of metal oxide catalysts. The nature of active sites in selective oxidation reactions will also be briefly discussed. We will pay special attention to several representative reactions: (1) ODH of short chain alkanes (from C1 to C4), (2) propene partial oxidation/ammoxidation on bismuth molybdate based catalysts, (3) n-butane direct oxidation to maleic anhydride on VPO type catalysts, and (4) propane direct oxidation/ammoxidation on mixed MoVTe(Sb)Nb–O catalysts. A comparative study of methanol carbonation on unsupported SnO2 and ZrO2

International audience; The aim of this work was to explore the catalytic properties of SnO2 in the coupling of methanol with carbon dioxide to afford dimethyl carbonate. SnO2 nanopowders were produced by hydrolysis of tin tetra-tert-butoxide dissolved in n-butanol. The samples were much more active than a commercial one due to their higher surface areas. In addition, they exhibited excellent recyclability. However, comparison with ZrO2, prepared and tested under the same experimental conditions, showed that zirconia-based catalysts were more selective and are, among the heterogeneous catalysts already reported, still the more selective. The syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic properties of four rhenium(IV) compounds of formulae NBu4[ReCl5(pyzCOOH)]·H2O (1), [ReCl5(µ-pyzCOO)M(dmphen)2]·2CH3CN [M = Ni (2) and Co (3)] and {[ReCl5(µ3-pyzCOO)]2Mn2(dmphen)3}n (4) (NBu4 = tetra-n-butylammonium cation, pyzCOOH = 2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid, dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) are reported herein. Acylchalcogenourea Complexes of Silver(I)

Acylthio- or acylselenoureas react with silver(I) oxide to form tetranuclear silver(I) complexes containing the deprotonated acylchalcogenourea ligands bound to the silver atoms through the chalcogen and oxygen atoms. These tetrasilver(I) species react with either 4 or 8 equiv. of a phosphine to afford either dinuclear silver(I) phosphine complexes or tetrahedral silver diphosphine complexes. In these compounds, the acylchalcogenourea ligands form six-membered rings by coordinating to the metal atom through the chalcogen and oxygen atoms. Rational Synthesis of Chiral Metal-Organic Frameworks from Preformed Rodlike Secondary Building Units.

The lack of rational design methodologies to obtain chiral rod-based MOFs is a current synthetic limitation that hampers further expansion of MOF chemistry. Here we report a metalloligand design strategy consisting of the use, for the first time, of preformed 1D rodlike SBUs (1) for the rational preparation of a chiral 3D MOF (2) exhibiting a rare eta net topology. The encoded chiral information on the enantiopure ligand is efficiently transmitted first to the preformed helical 1D building block and, in a second stage, to the resulting chiral 3D MOF. These results open new routes for the rational design of chiral rod-based MOFs, expanding the scope of these unique porous materials.

Modulation of the ordering temperature in anilato-based magnets

Abstract Four new 2D honeycomb anilato-based ferrimagnets with Mn(II) and Cr(III) have been prepared and characterized. These compounds, formulated as (NBu4)[MnCr(C6O4X2)3(PhCHO)]·PhY (X/Y = Cl/H (1), Br/H (2), Cl/CHO (3) and Br/CHO (4) show that it is possible to include benzaldehyde as a co-ligand coordinated to the Mn(II) metal atom in these 2D ferrimagnets. This inclusion increases the coordination number of Mn(II) to seven resulting in a change in the ordering temperatures of these 2D ferrimagnets (from ca. 10–11 K to ca. 7 K). Three cobalt dipyrrin-bisphenol (DPPCo) complexes with different meso-aryl groups (pentafluorophenyl, phenyl, and mesityl) were synthesized and characterized based on their electrochemistry and spectroscopic properties in nonaqueous media. Two enantiomeric complexes of formula [MnIII2(μ-OCH3)2(R-valBINAM)2]·1.75DMF (1) and [MnIII2(μ-OCH3)2(S-valBINAM)2]·2DMF (2) [valBINAM = 1,1′-binaphthalene-2,2′-bis(3-methoxysalicylideneiminate)] have been synthesized using as a ligand the chiral Schiff bases resulting from the condensation reactions between o-vanillin and the chiral 1,1′-binaphthyl-2,2′-diamine.
