Downregulation of the Astroglial Connexin Expression and Neurodegeneration after Pilocarpine-Induced Status Epilepticus
2022
Astrocytic networks and gap junctional communication mediated by connexins (Cxs) have been repeatedly implicated in seizures, epileptogenesis, and epilepsy. However, the effect of seizures on Cx expression is controversial. The present study focused on the response of Cxs to status epilepticus (SE), which is in turn an epileptogenic insult. The expression of neuronal Cx36 and astrocytic Cx30 and Cx43 mRNAs was investigated in the brain of rats in the first day after pilocarpine-induced SE. In situ hybridization revealed a progressive decrease in Cx43 and Cx30 mRNA levels, significantly marked 24 h after SE onset in neocortical areas and the hippocampus, and in most thalamic domains, whereas…
Phosphotungstic acid (PTA) in the synthesis of 3D CdS superstructures by diffusion assisted hydrothermal method
2015
Abstract In this study, the synthesis of cadmium sulfide (CdS) microstructures by gas diffusion assisted hydrothermal method using phosphotungstic acid (PTA) is reported. The as-synthesized products were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effects of PTA dose, thioacetamide amount, time and temperature on the morphology of obtained particles have been studied. In this process, PTA ion host stabilizes the CdS particles against aggregation and thioacetamide plays two roles, being at the same time a sulfur source and a capping ligand. Based on the performed analyses it seems that the thioacetamide is mor…
Crystal structures of allyltriphenyl-phosphonium halogenocuprates(I)
2013
Alternating-current electrochemical synthesis is used to obtain for the first time halogenocuprates of an allyl derivative of phosphonium of the composition (CH2=CHCH2(C6H5)3P)CuX2 (X = Br (I), Cl (II)). Compound I crystallizes in the space group P21, a = 9.6341(3) A, b = 12.4167(4) A, c = 9.9618(4) A, β = 117.484(5)°, Z = 2. Compound II crystallizes in the space group P21/n, a = 9.9725(5) A, b = 15.4586(8) A, c = 13.7557(5) A, β = 90.429(4)°, Z = 4. In the structures of I and II quasilinear CuX 2 − anions are held by C-H…X hydrogen bonds inside a framework formed by the stacking of phenyl groups from CH2=CHCH2(C6P5)3P+ cations. Allyl groups are not involved in coordination with copper(I) a…
The Epigenetics of the Endocannabinoid System
2020
The endocannabinoid system (ES) is a cell-signalling system widely distributed in biological tissues that includes endogenous ligands, receptors, and biosynthetic and hydrolysing machineries. The impairment of the ES has been associated to several pathological conditions like behavioural, neurological, or metabolic disorders and infertility, suggesting that the modulation of this system may be critical for the maintenance of health status and disease treatment. Lifestyle and environmental factors can exert long-term effects on gene expression without any change in the nucleotide sequence of DNA, affecting health maintenance and influencing both disease load and resistance. This potentially …
Molecular Approaches Fighting Nonsense
2021
Nonsense mutations are the result of single nucleotide substitutions in the DNA that change a sense codon (coding for an amino acid) to a nonsense or premature termination codon (PTC) within the coding region of the mRNA [...]
Electrocatalysis of neurotransmitter catecholamines by 2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium ion immobilized inside zeolite Y supercages
1999
2,4,6-Triphenylpyrylium ions entrapped inside the supercages of Y zeolite exert a remarkable catalytic effect toward the electrochemical oxidation of dopamine and norepinephrine (neurotrasmitter catecholamines) in neutral aqueous media. Domenech Carbo, Antonio, Antonio.Domenech@uv.es
The Role of the α Cell in the Pathogenesis of Diabetes: A World beyond the Mirror
2021
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most prevalent chronic metabolic disorders, and insulin has been placed at the epicentre of its pathophysiological basis. However, the involvement of impaired alpha (α) cell function has been recognized as playing an essential role in several diseases, since hyperglucagonemia has been evidenced in both Type 1 and T2DM. This phenomenon has been attributed to intra-islet defects, like modifications in pancreatic α cell mass or dysfunction in glucagon’s secretion. Emerging evidence has shown that chronic hyperglycaemia provokes changes in the Langerhans’ islets cytoarchitecture, including α cell hyperplasia, pancreatic beta (β) cell dedifferentiati…
miR-31-5p Is a LIPUS-Mechanosensitive MicroRNA that Targets HIF-1α Signaling and Cytoskeletal Proteins
2019
The roles of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) and microRNAs (miRNAs) on hMSCs commitments have already been investigated
Magnetic transition metal complexes of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) derivatives
1997
We have prepared and characterized the transition metal complexes of two different TTF derivatives. We have oxidized the different complexes with electrooxidation and chemical oxidation techniques and the results are discussed. The magnetic properties of the complexes have been studied. TTF-carboxylate chelates are not stable enough, but thioether-TTF shows promising charge transfer salts.
Binding of Cu2+, Zn2+, and Ni(2+)-GnRH complexes with the rat pituitary receptor.
1997
Complex of copper with the gonadotropin-releasing hormone, GnRH, competed more efficiently for the GnRH receptor than native GVRH, while complexes of nickel with GnRH and zinc with GnRH had slightly lower affinity. Copper ion added to the incubation mixture inhibited the buserelin binding to the receptor.
