"Oppilaat ovat turvallisia, koska lapsi ei saa lyötyä niin kovaa kuin aikuinen" : viidesluokkalaisten käsityksiä turvallisuudesta

2017

Tutkimuksen teon lähtökohtana oli fenomenologinen etnografia, jossa tutkitaan yhden luokan oppilaiden omia käsityksiä turvallisuudesta. Aineistoa kerättiin opettajahaastattelulla, havainnoinnilla ja teematunnilla, jossa oppilaita pyydettiin kirjoittamaan omia käsityksiään turvallisuudesta. Tarkoituksena oli ensisijaisesti luoda etnografia ottamalla selvää, mitä lapset tarkoittavat turvallisuudella. Toissijainen tarkoitus oli vaikuttaa mahdollisimman vähän tutkimuskohteisiin. Tutkimuksella haluttiin selvittää tietyssä hetkessä lasten aito palaute, josta voisi ymmärtää, mitä lapset tarkoittavat turvallisuudella mahdollisesti toisin kuin aikuiset. Lapset hahmottelevat turvallisuutta monella ta…

Profiles of early career insecurity and its outcomes in adolescence : A four‐wave longitudinal study

2023

This study investigated the developmental profiles of perceived early career insecurity (ECI) and their outcomes among adolescents (n = 1416) during a critical educational transition from basic education to upper secondary education. We found three distinct latent profiles with varying amounts of ECI: Profile 1: Moderate and decreasing ECI before the transition (57%); Profile 2: Low-decreasing ECI before the transition but increasing ECI after the transition (31%); and Profile 3: High and stable ECI during the transition (12%). Moreover, the ECI profiles related to school and life satisfaction as well as to school stress and dropout intentions in a meaningful way consistent with the stresso…

The Far-Reaching Consequences of Job Insecurity : A Review on Family-Related Outcomes

2017

Job insecurity (JI) appears a fairly stable job stressor in working life today and likely to impair employee well-being. This review article presents the key findings of studies examining the effects of perceived JI on family well-being (e.g., marital/parental role quality, work–family conflict). The results, based on 25 published peer-reviewed studies, suggest an association between JI and impaired family well-being. Thus, JI spills over into family life as proposed in the spillover theory of work–family interface. Furthermore, studies have found some evidence of crossover effects of JI from parents to children: parents’ JI relates to negative outcomes in children. These results support th…

The associations of quantitative/qualitative job insecurity and well-being: The role of self-esteem.

2019

Job insecurity is recognized as one of the most prominent job stressors for employees. Despite decades of research, the concurrent examination of both quantitative (i.e. perceived threat of job loss) and qualitative (i.e., perceived threat of losing some job features) job insecurity and the analysis of their different relationships with well-being at work have received relatively scarce attention. This study examined a moderated mediation model of the relationship between quantitative job insecurity and well-being at work. In doing so, the focus was on the mediating effects of qualitative job insecurity and the moderating effects of self-esteem in the abovementioned relationships. Drawing f…
