This paper explores the evolution of the psychological foundation of institutional economics between the early XXc and the 1940s. The first part deals with the rise and fall of instinct psychology. Inspired by Veblen's taxonomy of instinctive behavior, several American economists attempted to build a viable alternative to psychological hedonism of neoclassical economics then only at its infancy. In this debate we show how instinct theory came to be applied to the field now as industrial psychology. This paper aims to analyze the concept of fear in La main du diable, a movie of Maurice Tourneur. The film shows the Faustian pact between a bad artist and the devil. The pact concerns a wretched hand, and the obsession that will lead the protagonist to free it. The director has been able to show two kinds of fear, which, taken in isolation, seem to be a chiasm: the fear of death, which is afraid of a condition of life that leads to death (misery, failure, lack of love), and the fear of life, which is afraid of eternity, of an eternal suffering, of a life that does not remedy the loss of one's being. This paper critically examines Geoffrey Hodgson's recent provocative claim about Frank Knight as being a member of American institutionalism in the interwar years. In the first section of the paper the authors attempt to provide a definition of institutionalism and to emphasize its meaning from a historiographic point of view. Su sexualidad ha estado sustentada por una serie de mitos y falsas creencias que, a pesar de carecer de apoyo empírico, han restringido su derecho a conseguir una expresión libre de esta faceta. En unos casos su sexualidad ha sido equiparada a la de los niños, creyendo que eran personas asexuadas; y en otros se les ha presupuesto una ausencia de control sobre sus impulsos, optando por no despertar sus instintos sexuales.
