On the discrete linear ill‐posed problems
1999
An inverse problem of photo‐acoustic spectroscopy of semiconductors is investigated. The main problem is formulated as the integral equation of the first kind. Two different regularization methods are applied, the algorithms for defining regularization parameters are given. Party Positions on Differentiated European Integration in the Nordic Countries: Growing Together, Growing Apart?
2020
The Nordic countries constitute an interesting laboratory for the study of differentiated European Integration. Even though Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden share some historical, cultural, socio-economic and political characteristics, all those countries have ultimately opted for a different kind of relationship with the EU. Whereas Finland, a member of the Eurozone since its inception in 1999, has been considered to be part of the Union’s ‘inner core’ for quite some time, Iceland and Norway, in contrast, have opted to remain outside the EU albeit closely associated via the European Economic Area Agreement. The variation of relationships has also been reflected in Nordic parti…
The Euro Area Crisis; Need for a Supranational Fiscal Risk Sharing Mechanism?
2013
The aim of this paper is to assess the effectiveness of risk sharing mechanisms in the euro area and whether a supranational fiscal risk sharing mechanism could insure countries against very severe downturns. Using an unbalanced panel of 15 euro area countries over the period 1979â2010, the results of the paper show that: (i) the effectiveness of risk sharing mechanisms in the euro area is significantly lower than in existing federations (such as the U.S. and Germany) and (ii) it falls sharply in severe downturns just when it is needed most; (iii) a supranational fiscal stabilization mechanism, financed by a relatively small contribution, would be able to fully insure euro area countries …
An electrical current smart transducer based on PSoC platform and integrated spin-valve sensor with embedded thin film Ruthenium temperature sensor
2011
This work presents an intelligent electrical current sensor that combines a programmable system on chip (PSoC) with a microfabrication of a giant magnetoresistance sensor (GMR) and resistive temperature detector (RTD). Four spin-valve GMR elements configured in a Wheatstone bridge sense the electrical current, while a thin film RTD based on Ruthenium measures the temperature for spin-valve bridge sensitivity thermal compensation. The mixed signal PSoC allows implement in a single chip all electronic circuits needed to design a smart transducer: the spin-valve biasing, conditioning signal, analog to digital converter, digital signal processing and ports for communications. In the experimenta…
Power monitoring in dielectric-loaded plasmonic waveguides with internal Wheatstone bridges
2013
We report on monitoring the mode power in dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides (DLSPPWs) by measuring the resistance of gold electrodes, supporting the DLSPPW mode propagation, with internal (on-chip) Wheatstone bridges. The investigated DLSPPW configuration consisted of 1-μm-thick and 10-μm-wide cycloaliphatic acrylate polymer ridges tapered laterally to a 1-μm-wide ridge placed on a 50-nm-thin and 4-um wide gold stripe, all supported by a ~1.7-µm-thick Cytop layer deposited on a Si wafer. The fabricated DLSPPW power monitors were characterized at telecom wavelengths, showing very high responsivities reaching up to ~6.4 μV/μW (for a bias voltage of 245 mV) and the operati…
Offshore wind metadata management
2014
Offshore wind energy is gaining more and more attention from industry and research community due to its high potential in producing green energy and lowering price on electricity consumption. However, offshore wind is facing many challenges, and hence it is still expensive to install in large scale. It therefore needs to be considered from different aspects of technologies in order to overcome these challenges. One of the problems of the offshore wind is that information comes from different sources with diversity in types and format. Besides, there are existing wind databases that should be utilised in order to enrich the knowledge base of the wind domain. This paper describes an approach …
The sicilian cooperative system of wine production: the strategic choices and performance analyses of a case study
2020
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to verify whether, besides the traditional organisational models mainly implemented by wine-making cooperatives, more modern and hybrid organisational forms can be profitably applied within an increasingly competitive wine market. Design/methodology/approach The study outlined in this paper deployed a mixed method. Specifically, an archived analysis, a survey and a descriptive case study (including visits, interviews and documentary analysis) were the methodological techniques used in this study, which were “in series but integrated” between themselves. In this paper, the landscape of Sicilian wine cooperatives is described by collating and processing d…
The circular economy model in the socio-economic systems of the wood industry : the case of the Tomsk oblast
2021
Using the Circular Economy (CE) model appears to be today a means more and more employed by organizations and public policies to overcome the problem of waste and bring it to a new stage of progress: the one of sustainability. If the issue of diagnosis and the need for a transition to CE is generally no longer discussed, the question of its implementation is all the more so, especially in Russia. Depending on the type of economic sector and the territory considered, an CE strategy cannot be viewed in the same way. Whether in terms of natural resources, labour or capital, different economic factors are brought to interfere in the search for circularity and sustainability. The objective of th…
Kirkwood-Buff integrals from molecular simulation
2019
The Kirkwood-Buff (KB) theory provides a rigorous framework to predict thermodynamic properties of isotropic liquids from the microscopic structure. Several thermodynamic quantities relate to KB integrals, such as partial molar volumes. KB integrals are expressed as integrals of RDFs over volume but can also be obtained from density fluctuations in the grand-canonical ensemble. Various methods have been proposed to estimate KB integrals from molecular simulation. In this work, we review the available methods to compute KB integrals from molecular simulations of finite systems, and particular attention is paid to finite-size effects. We also review various applications of KB integrals comput…
Estimation of peak capacity based on peak simulation.
2018
Peak capacity (PC) is a key concept in chromatographic analysis, nowadays of great importance for characterising complex separations as a criterion to find the most promising conditions. A theoretical expression for PC estimation can be easily deduced in isocratic elution, provided that the column plate count is assumed constant for all analytes. In gradient elution, the complex dependence of peak width with the gradient program implies that an integral equation has to be solved, which is only possible in a limited number of situations. In 2005, Uwe Neue developed a comprehensive theory for the calculation of PC in gradient elution, which is only valid for certain situations: single linear …
