Social Desirability Bias among Prejudice Instruments : An Integrated Threat
2019
A considerable amount of research has examined the extent to which members of dominant cultures perceive minority groups as threatening their way of life. While various instruments measure these perceptions of threat, few researchers have empirically analysed the statistical properties of these scales. Specifically, studies have not adequately explored social desirability of threat scales. The current study investigates the extent to which one set of threat scales is internally consistent or reliable (González et al., 2008), and explores social desirability within the González et al. (2008) integrated threat instruments by comparing self-reports to other reports (intimate other and friend r…
Threats and attitudes toward Russian-speaking immigrants: a comparative study between younger and older Finns
2014
Using integrated threat theory as a theoretical lens to detect negative attitudes toward minority groups, this study compares and contrasts the perceptions and attitudes of older and younger Finns toward Russian-speaking minorities in Finland. A sample of high school students between 16 and 20 years of age represented the younger generation, while individuals over 65 years of age represented the older generation. The total sample was 242. Results indicated that there is a positive correlation between threat perception and prejudice. Results revealed that both groups have prejudices against Russian speakers and that these prejudices are related to the perception of realistic threat and negat…
Comparison between a detailed and a simplified integrated model for the assessment of urban drainage environmental impact on an ephemeral river
2008
The benefit of integrated analysis has been demonstrated in technical literature and it is also required by the EU Water Framework Directive 60/2000, which proposes a water-quality-orientated view of the whole urban drainage system and oversees new ways of assessing its performance. Integrated models, such as any complex modelling approach, often have prohibitive data availability requirements that reduce their applicability. Moreover, widely different approaches can be applied, ranging from simple conceptual models to complex physically based ones. In the present paper, two approaches have been compared using data from an experimental catchment in Bologna ( Italy), which consists of a part…
Urban Regeneration in Porto: exploring the role of the EU urban policies in Bairro da Sé
European cities have been threatened by many challenges, including socioeconomic crisis, environmental hazards and the phenomenon of climate change, that affect both the territory and the people that inhabit it. At the same time the European Commission underlines the major impact of local urban settings on the sustainable development of Europe, while cities hold the capacity to steer their futures. Since the 1990s that the European Union, together with the Portuguese urban policies, have been influencing the processes of spatial development within the city of Porto by deploying direct and indirect urban regeneration strategies. Among these strategies are integrated urban regeneration interv…
Postawy rodzicielskie reprezentowane przez rodziców uczniów szkół integracyjnych
2016
Family perceived as a basic environment conditioning the overall develoment of a child is important not only for healthy, normally developing children; in the upbringing of a child with a disability the role and importance of the family are greatly increased. Children with disabilities are particularly at risk of the consequences of negative attitudes of parents, because the attitudes of relatives, especially the parents', determine a child's proper development, and they are crucial for the effects obtained in the process of rehabilitation.
Semi-blind Source Extraction Methods: Application to the measurement of non-contact physiological signs
2018
Non-contact physiological measurements are highlydesirable in many biomedical fields such asdiagnosis of infants, geriartic patients, patients withextreme physical trauma, and fitness and well-being.Remote photoplethysmography is increasingly beingused for non-contact measurement of heart rate fromvideos which is one of the most common biomedicalproperty required for most medical diagnosis. Oneof the common techniques for performing remotephotoplethysmography involves using Blind SourceSeparation (BSS) methods to extract the cardiacsignal from video data.In this context, the objective of this thesis is todevelop different methods in the field of extractionand separation of sources by improv…
L’integrazione dei compiti della madre e del padre nell’educazione dei figli e delle figlie
2016
The harmonious development of youth personality requires family stability and a positive emotional atmosphere; both needs are threatened by pedagogical errors both theoretical and practical. Educationalists develop skills in parents when undertaking to understand their real needs refraining from using abstract models. The phenomenological study of the most frequent educational behavior is a good starting point to set training interventions for parents. Human imperfections, experienced in their parents – as their primary caregivers – do not prevent children from achieving their potential once they perceive in them a recognition of mistakes and a desire for improvement. Educational relationsh…
