Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is a widely used imaging modality providing complementary diagnostic information to angiography regarding the vessel wall of the coronary arteries. IVUS has been used for assessment of ambiguous angiographic lesions, evaluation of new interventional devices and in atherosclerosis progression-regression trials. Effect of Rotary Instrument Mineral Oil Lubricant on Osseointegration: A Randomized, Blinded Study in Rabbits

The mechanisms of early failures in dental implant osseointegration are unclear. A possible cause of low levels of bone formation is lubricant contamination on implants during insertion. To explore the impact of lubricant contamination on dental implants, we used 5 New Zealand rabbits and inserted 2 implants per tibia in each animal for a total of 4 implants per animal (20 implants in total). In general, bicorticalization was achieved. The first implant was placed as suggested by the manufacturer with no lubricant used (control). The present work is a revision of the processes occurring in osseointegration of titanium dental implants according to different types of surfaces -namely, polished surfaces, rough surfaces obtained from subtraction methods, as well as the new hydroxyapatite biomimetic surfaces obtained from thermochemical processes. Hydroxyapatite’s high plasma-projection temperatures have proven to prevent the formation of crystalline apatite on the titanium dental implant, but lead to the formation of amorphous calcium phosphate (i.e., with no crystal structure) instead. Several studies have been conducted to explore students’ understanding of the integral-area relationships, however, only a few focused on students’ metacognition in relation to this topic. In this study, students’ metacognitive knowledge, skills, and experiences in relation to an integral-area evaluation task are explored using semi-structured interviews and think-aloud protocol. The results show that several students developed monitoring strategies in relation to integral-area relationships; however, they do not use these strategies when solving integral-area tasks.
